It's really not that funny.

U2's music is pretentious, and they are hardly a talented band.

QUOTE(Jack4343 @ Jun 17 2006, 8:25 am) *

<rant> It just goes to show you that everyone will have a different opinion. I'm exactly the opposite regarding the political songs. I can't stand them. I was watching my Pearl Jam Touring Band 2000 DVD last night and looked over to my wife and said, "Why can't Eddie Vedder just sing? I mean, enough of the political crap...I paid good money for your damn music! Entertain me! Who does he think he is? Bob Dylan? Joan Baez?" To me, the last two Pearl Jam CDs are pretty much unlistenable because of all the political lyrics. I listen to music as an escape. No need to try and rile me all up. I'm 36 years old. I'm not being influenced by the lyrics. Thats pretty much the reason why I love Songs From Black Mountain. The beginning of "The River"..."La La La La"....beautiful! Give me more beautiful, happy music with good hooks and snappy choruses! The whole album to me is incredible. All except "Home". Again, for the reasons I stated above. Ed has as much business talking about soldiers as I do about them. He didn't serve, I didn't serve and therefore have no authority on the subject. <endrant> smile.gif

I literally can't stand idiots who say shit like that. No authority to talk on a matter because they didn't serve? WTF kind of idiotic crap is that? I haven't served the military but does that mean I'm supposed to have no feelings on it? I've never lived in a war zone but does that mean I'm not supposed to have any thoughts as to how it must be for those who do?

I can talk about whatever the fuck I wanna talk about you shitdouche and so can Ed or anybody else. Go live in Afghanistan if you think people don't have any business talking or singing about issues that are dear to them.

I've often thought the same things as Ed has mentioned. Wondering how parents must feel watching the news everyday, seeing bombs being set off by the hundreds and wondering when their kids are coming home. Looking at their grandchildren and wondering if they'll ever see or know their father. I feel for those people and I hurt for them inside too.

It's people like you who only wanna hear this happy American Idol pop shit that really bother me. Fucking zombies.

Me? I wanna hear shit from bands like System of a Down, Live and Pearl Jam who have something real and meaningful to say. Not just this "Ohh baby, I'm so lost without you" fucking sewer crap that gets sung over and over and over again by all these no mind pop artist dip shits. Fuck them all.

I want more lyrics like from BYOB by System "WHY DON'T PRESIDENTS FIGHT THE WAR, WHY DO THEY ALWAYS SEND THE POOR?".....or "YOU DEPEND ON OUR PROTECTION, YET YOU FEED US LIES FROM THE TABLECLOTH" Give me music with some badd ass bass guitar and lyrics with something to say.

nod.gif I feel you and I agree with you 100%. I'm a songwriter too so I can definately attest to the fact that songwriters write about issues because they are affected by them. For example, I wrote a song about Hurrricane Katrina several weeks after it happened, not because I forced my self to but because i was compelled to. I just had to. I was so enraged about the whole fuckin situation and that was the only way i could vent. It didnt matter if anyone else but my family and friends heard it, I just had to. The good thing about System, Live and those other bands is that they have an audience who they can vent to. I guess thats why they say great art comes from great sorrow. I will always respect bands these and the Dixie Chicks ( whom I'm not a fan of their music) because they have the guts to express themselves despite the fact that it might cost them record sales or fans.

First off...calm down. Do you kiss your momma with that potty mouth? Your opinion means nothing to me if you can't express it without resorting to name calling. Political expression does have a place in song. I don't care for it but others do. No problems there. However, when it gets to the point where all the artist does is run their mouths about this political agenda or that political agenda, it gets a bit much and my enjoyment of their music suffers for it. Pearl Jam is one example that I mentioned. Eddie Vedder and I have completely different view points on most discussions political and when he goes on and on about it away from music, I start to dislike the person behind the music so I don't enjoy them as a band. I became a fan of theirs because of their music...not because of their political views. Hey, it's just the way I feel. If that makes me a "shitdouche", then so be it. It matters not to me. smile.gif

now let me express my views. ed does NOT have a fucking clue what it is to serve. I put on a uniform and have shed blood more than once for what i believe in and so OTHER U.S. citizens can have the freedom to believe what they want. you are absolutely right that people can feel, sing, and write about anything they want, but i GUARANTEE you that ed is completely and utterly wrong on what MOST of those who serve feel. i enjoy live but i don't agree with them politically and feel it is PRETENTIOUS as hell for anyone to think they have something pegged with absolutely NO experience. I will tell you something else, our president is still well respected by the majority of our military (the U.S.) unlike his predecessor. very few noticed that anytime Clinton exited AF1 his Marine guard always remained facing outward and they NEVER turned and saluted him the way they ALWAYS do Bush. i certainly don't think Bush is perfect but i do have a great deal of respect for the man. Abraham Lincoln was VERY unpopular in his day and would have NEVER won a reelection, yet history now recognizes him as the best president to ever serve this country. yeah, i'll get torched for comparing Bush to him, but anyone who has really studied TRUE history can see the similarities.

As far as you go, you obviously have no class and i could care less what your canadian ass believes in. I am a PROUD U.S. citizen, and I will NEVER, EVER be a subject or a socialist!

You gotta be joking right??? But I'm afraid not.

You're too blind to see that that's exactly what people hate about most Americans....You're sooooo easily brainwashed!!! It's funny, yet oh so sad to see.

Bush is an utter fucking moron, that's so plain to see. An utter idiot, imbecile....dumb fuck, shit wit idiot. He has people dying over in Iraq for what now? Contracts, money and oil. He's lining his own pockets and those of his friends, plain and simple.

You comparing him to aman like Abraham Lincoln makes you ten thousand times fucking dumber then he is. So utterly fucking stupid in fact that I'm not even going to bother responding to rest of your post you dimwitted moron. As FAR AS YOU GO, I could care less what your dumb, brainwashed American ass believes in. LMAO....wow.

Have no right to go off on what they have not experienced? What? Since when did you people become communist? Is he not allowed to have an opinion? Is he not allowed to believe that there is no reason for this war? Or for war period?

And wtf is he going off on in "home" anyhow? All I hear is him asking "when they coming home? When they leaving that place?"

"I'm a soldier on the field, fighting for you, fighting for me" Well, isn't that precisely what the men in the military are doing? Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

"I'm a soldier on the field, waitin' to die, praying to live" Is that unreasonable? Pretentious? Soldiers out there with bullets whizzing everywhere, bombs and mortars exploding everyhwere. Watching their countrymen and friends die. Is it illogical to assume that a soldier would feel that way?

"You'll never know what I've known, You'll never seen what I've seen" AGAIN, even for a person who has never served, how is that wrong to say? I've never served and I can completely identify with that. From sources such as media, history and first hand accounts fromm my grandfather who had both his legs blown off in WW II, I can easily identify with that. I remember him telling me numerous times that after watching so many bombs go off and watching so many people die, he felt like he was just waiting in line to die.

So seriously, what the fuck do ANY of you know about what Ed actually knows? So not one person who has served knows sweet fuck all about what a soldier goes through in a wartime situation? That's unbelieveably fucking assinine and hypocritically pretentious to those who have served and think that way. You don't have to be there to know the atrocities that happen. Just because you haven't seen it first hand doesn't mean jack shit. It may save you the trauma from the first hand experience is all. It's not hard to imagine how hard it must be for a soldier to risk his life every single day and it's not hard to imagine how sickening it must be to see piles of dead bodies strewn about. I can sure as fuck imagine how it would make me feel although I can't imagine the impact it might have psychologically...but this song doesn't get into that does it?

And to you sandman, I don't give a fuck that you're idiot enough to be a Bush worshipper. Thousands of soldiers over there aren't, and feel they're risking their lives unnecessarily. They want to come home now. Just because you feel the way you do, doesn't mean that others feel that way so get over your stupid fucking self already you brainwashed dickwad.

Ed, I or anybody else with brain enought to form a fucking opinion has every right to talk or sing about how we feel about ANY particular subject. Regardless of whether we've experienced it or not.

Wanna talk about pretentious? What the fuck do you know about what I know about history? NOTHING. So in turn, what you obviously know is just that fuckhead.

And what would talking to me face to face do for you anonymous American Bush blower?

Be proud and keep chanting USA USA like a fucking retard. That will get you more of what it feels like to be a soldier dodging bullets in hundreds of different countries.
