Ed's songwriting can drop something so cheesy it makes you cringe, then he can come out with something so pure, lucid and heartfelt that it sticks in your mind for years.

I agree with the lot. It's a balance...sometimes I love artists cause of their lyrics... sometimes I love songs for their lack of having a lyric that makes sense. Depends on the music as well. I tend to listen to the lyrics first... secondly the music. Also in harder songs. If a loud song just consist of one scream, it could be fun, but in no way would ever be my fave track. HAHA.

If the combination of the emotion in the lyric and the feel of the music are balanced out, man, that's a good song.

Just my 2 cents

The music comes first for me, then the vocal style ( I really love yodels in a rock song, everyone I really love yodels), then the lyrics.
For example, I heard one song by this group, Eisley on the net. I dug the sound so I went out and bought the album. I liked the "atmosphere" of the music, I liked the vocal style but the lyrics were just too mystical and shit about birds, fairys, rabbits in mermaid entwined shrubbery, bats with butterfly wings etc. You get the picture. I just couldnt take it. I can't listen to the album anymore. It just gets me freakin annoyed. Big ass grown ups and this is all the shit they can find to sing about angry.gif

Amen - vive le falsetto! If you like vocal gymnastics, you really should check out a band called Ours if you haven't already.

Oh god, I hate that kind of shit - it makes me feel violent. I didn't even like that kind of cutesy air fairy nonsense when I was a 9 year old girl. I want some kind of passion and energy - not fucking bunny rabbits... unless they happen to be roadkill a'la AFI.

just curious, there has been so much discussion over on the live board about lyrics, how important are they to you. i've stated frequently lyrics are the last thing that draw me to a song. for me, first and foremost is the music, and the voice is pretty much another instrument to me. i could really care less what the lyrics say 99% of the time, as long as i like the tune.

Well I'm digging the lyrics to HOME. rockin.gif

I think I should write a song for them called Bush blows little boys.

First comes the music, then sometimes the lyrics. To really be moved by the lyrics, they obviously have to be very pertinent to me at that exact moment. Perfect example-PINK FLOYD-Comfortably Numb and Mother from THE WALL pretty much sums all of high school for me. I felt like Pink Floyd was my mouth piece at the time. Sometimes it is not even the whole song, only a line. Several years ago my son was diagnosed with autism, the song that I listened to every day all day was Feel the Quiet River Rage. That was how I felt. I had to be strong and silent and rage when I had the luxury of being alone. That song took me through a very dark time. For the most part it is about the music though.

Thank you Senghe apple.gif I checked them out and promptly made a friend request. I'm now addicted to the song Fallen Souls. The other songs are cool but right now I can't get enough of Fallen Souls. I love the raw vocals, he sings his ass off. Plus, cute band members happy.gif

Now I just gotta go look up the lyrics and find out what the hell he's saying lol.gif

EDIT: I see where it says they are coming to NYC on July 15th and I was all excited to see them play, but its gonna be an acoustic set and I want the full explosion of sound, the first time I see a band. So I'll catch them next time when they're ready to get crazy & totally rock out.

Thanks for asking, he is doing amazing. We did 4 years of very intense therapy-25 hours a week and with that he is now totally mainstreamed and undetectable. He still has some slight issues but we are making through just fine!!! By the way he loves LIVE!!! thumbsup.gif

You're very welcome! I've loved Ours for YEARS. If you like Fallen Souls, you should definitely try to find the album Distorted Lullabies. The official site is woefully out of date at the moment (should be a new album out next year with luck). Check out this website as they have several live performances (full band) to download http://www.killtheband.com/ And they have a good lyrics section too!

You're lucky to have the choice - We've never seen Ours in England and Jimmy played one gig that I managed to miss as it was a last minute thing - boy was I seriously pissed off about that!
