All the large artists have a teleprompter present, but I can guarantee you none of them look down at it.

Hand-written lyrics to songs you've been performing for 4 years is pure laziness.

you can't guarantee shit -- because you don't know that. words on a message board. you're allowed your opinion and that's all it is.

Ed had lyrics to Imagine taped to the floor. Not the most complicated song in the world. I think it is just so much easier to remember your own lyrics than those from others.

Then again, Chris was sure not all too experienced to front a band but I could feel his enthusiasm through all of it. It made him very real.

Ya because Chris was an excited fan that couldn’t believe his good fortune to be the lead singer of live. Ed is the actual lead singer of live who wrote the songs that Chris was so fortunate to perform in front of thousands of people.

Chris was the front of Unified Theory and opened for Live! he had plenty of fronting experience. The difference between the few times Ed covered Imagine is that Chris was responsible for songs that were advertised as Live, and played the same hits over and over the entire tour and still fucked up. Obviously he didn't even read the lyrics on the floor properly.

Wow, the surprises and dysfunction never end. I listened to the band in Niagra - I thought they sounded bad. Not necessarily drums, guitar, and bass, but Ed - as he has been for the last 20 years, he sounds like he's in a karaoke bar. For Christ's sake, stop fucking demanding the audience sings along. They'll sing along if they damn well please. They don't need to be fucking reminded at every break in every song.

I listened to Chris Shinn's new song Billy Grooves, and he has something there. He has something on his new album, too. FYI on Apple music it's under "Shinn", not Chris Shinn, for some reason. Chris' new music sounds like what Live might've sounded like if they evolved and grew as people and musicians over the last 20 years.

Live is dead. Live's been dead. The last 15 to 20 years has been us and the various band members moving the arms and legs of the corpse and saying 'hey, there's some life in this, I think it's still alive', but it's not. It's dead.

The spirit of live, the energy and essence of what we all fell in love with - I look forward to however I, or we, find that again in our lives. That, I believe, can still be found.

The timing of this article is a hatchet job!

The million dollar question is WHO poked Rolling Stone and said hey I think you should randomly do an interview with Shinn nervous.gif

I know how this happened. You see, after it was announced that Ed was doing a solo tour under the Live moniker, Chris' evil twin brother, Chris-2, sent a letter as Chris to the Rolling Stone saying that he had some beans to spill on Live. Chris, who has been locked in a cave near a beach in California for the past 10 years, had nothing to do with this. But Chris-2 is easy to recognize! Chris still has his dreads but Chris-2 doesn't. I don't know why no one can see it!

Of course Live is a fucking shit soap opera that could make this ridiculous theory believable but chances are that it's a mix of Chris having a new record and, as @Cardiff_Giant said, the series is litterally "Rolling Stone‘s interview series King for a Day features long-form conversations between senior writer Andy Greene and singers who had the difficult job of fronting major rock bands after the departure of an iconic vocalist." which is why they also talk about Blind Melon.

That is truly a shocking conspiracy. I wish my initial evil twin theory was right, it would at least be entertaining.

QUOTE(gerrycan70 @ Nov 3 2022, 5:49 am) *

What I will say, however, is after 4 years being in a band there is ZERO excuses for still having lyrics at your feet on stage!

Apart from you and Bill Hynes around here, I've seen no one bitch about Chris forgetting some lyrics or having lyrics at his feet. Who fucking cares seriously? He put on a great show, had a great voice, that's all that matters. Littlerally!

Also, as it's been said, Axl Rose, Liam Gallagher and others are known to use lyric sheets and/or teleprompters. People with a huge back catalog, ESPECIALLY IF THEY DIDN'T WRITE THE SONG, can forget lyrics. I see that as wanting to give the best performance. It's not a negative thing at all.

And I'll add to that :

Forgetting lyrics <<<<<<< Fucking over everyone in the band (which goes for both Ed/Chad T.)

What Ed is doing now and what Chad has done before is truly disgusting and a way better reason to hate on Live, or rather the dust that remains from it, than Chris not knowing the lyrics by heart.

Good look at a video of a Bruce Springsteen concert in the last 20 years. Dude is one of the greatest live performers of all time and he's still staring down at the lyrics to Born to Run, to say nothing of the rest of his catalog. And he wrote the damn song.

Imagine the disappointment of some around here when they learn that Shinn probably didn't tune his own guitar either.

I still can’t understand the rationale of comparing CT and Ed, I really can’t. CT has deceived every single person on the band, which is a fact, and there is nothing factual that Ed has done the same.

then you haven't been reading this thread or this board very closely. It's totally unacceptable that he forgets the lyrics as much as he does, many of us have been saying this for years. I don't care if he needs to read the lyrics, just don't fuck up i alone every other show.

Seems you have some deep rooted hate for Chris. Would love to hear an explanation as to why. I am honestly just curious.

Really interesting read. In a lot of ways it’s not stuff we didn’t already know and a lot of it comes off as what someone’s ex would say about them. But given all the behind the scenes drama with this band I’ll take any info I can get.

One thing that struck me, Chris is pissed at how he was let go and in many ways rightfully so. But he had no qualms taking over as the frontman despite knowing Ed would not be cool with it. That rubs me a bit hypocritical. If you were ok with 75% of the band cold dissing their old buddy then you lose some right to complain when it happens to you. Could have been handled more maturely but recognize the irony.

One question, Chris says the orignal plan was just to record the hits and re-monetize them. What’s the point of that? If they own the rights to re-record and rerelease then why not just do that with the originals. Chris even says he tried to sound as much like Ed as possible. Is the only point here to screw Ed out of future royalties? If so that seems like a super dick move, but I feel like I’m missing a nuance here.

Did any of these re-records end up bring used anywhere? Apart from being included as bonus tracks on the Australian version of The Turn...

Because the record company that paid for and released the original recording still owns the rights to it and takes a big chunk every time it is licensed for something. The new recording will belong to them.

There is no "right to rerecord", anybody can record any track originally by somebody else and release it, provided they pay the relevant royalties. In this case, the bulk of the royalties owed would be to themselves, the songwriters, so no foul.
