I don't share your view on Chris as frontman. I actually found he put on a very decent and energetic show.

On your other points; I do agree. It's weird that he is surprised that the band (read Ed) prefers to ignore The Turn and his presence with them after betraying the supposed friendship he had with Ed. He took an opportunity and then it costs him.

I will never blame him for wanting to improve his situation. I don't know if it was done properly. If there was no The Turn I would have thought differently. But they went in the studio and craft a record. That allowed them to tour, even if I would have liked them to play more songs off of it.

If Chris went to see and and say `Eh, I'd like to fill in Live, we will record new music, it's really what I want and well, CCP want to do new music so I'd be in`. I am ok with it, friends of the past or not. THey still should have left The Turn on Spotify. This situation is unfair for Shinn. I'd have liked that Shinn describes more songs from the record in that interview, his role, etc.

The timing of this article is a hatchet job!

The million dollar question is WHO poked Rolling Stone and said hey I think you should randomly do an interview with Shinn nervous.gif

The timing of this article coincides with Shinn putting out his own album. There's no mystery there. But you assume no one wants to hear from Shinn after all the shit that's gone down with the band recently? "Whoever" poked Rolling Stone probably didn't have to poke very hard.

QUOTE(gerrycan70 @ Nov 3 2022, 4:49 am) *

I wish I could say more because there is more, but I can't.

What this intimates in not so very subtle terms is that Shinn has some sour grapes. Well, no shit. He all but says so in any interview he's given about what went down between he and CCP. He's not hiding that shit.

QUOTE(gerrycan70 @ Nov 3 2022, 4:49 am) *

What I will say, however, is after 4 years being in a band there is ZERO excuses for still having lyrics at your feet on stage!

So what if he had lyrics on the stage? You say that like it makes him a bad person. At most it makes him a mediocre performer. Maybe he's just not cut out to be in an arena rock band. Or maybe it means he 's just better off performing his own music under his terms. He didn't write any of those Līve hits he was tasked with performing, after all.

QUOTE(gerrycan70 @ Nov 3 2022, 4:49 am) *

What an absolute shit show.... if only Netflix could see the value in a Some Kind Of Monster 2 starring..... uhoh.gif

No, I think the shit show is what's going on with the "band" right now. We're met with silence for a long time and then when we finally hear anything about what's going on is how the guitar player is fired for being a Big Dick all these years and how things are being set right... only to see the singer take off with the name and play shows with hired hands. EK should just drop the v out of the name Līve.

Maybe CT is the biggest douche ever, but maybe Ed is right behind him in 2nd place for pulling his own bitch made coup. Because that's what it looks like to me, especially if what CS said in that interview has any truth to it about the rest of the band being fired.

People will just have to make up their own minds about that and reconcile it with all the people who have nothing but glowing things to say about Shinn as a person who have met him. Seems like the biggest gripe people have had with Shinn is that he forgets lyrics and that he came from daddy's money, both of which are weak/thinly veiled attacks on his character based on both his performances as an artist (get up there and do it your fucking self if you think he sucked so badly) and life circumstances (he didn't control what family he was born into... why should he have to apologize for his father being successful).

If Ed has fired the entire band then he's not much better than CT, imo, at least when it comes the business of being in a world renowned rock band. And his touring under the name is as much a farce as everyone said it was for CCCP to tour and record under it.

Are you for real?
There is nothing that infuriates me more than to see Ed get hated on for trying to keep this band going. As soon as I read the interview with Shinn yesterday, I thought, “Oh great. Cue the Ed haters.” facepalm.gif
Poor guy. He never has a bad word to say about any of them, doesn’t have anything to do with their bad business dealings, brings back the music for us, and look at what he gets.

I could tell on the tours that PD’s heart wasn’t in it. - The way he acted on stage. Shinn confirmed it in the interview. I’ve been tired of CG’s bullshit for quite a while. No, I’m not talking political. Remember the “promoter chooses the setlist” lie, and then calling out fans who were commenting about them phoning it in? If your heart is not into it, then good riddance! Ed’s heart is still in it. That Niagara Falls show, from the videos I saw, looked like it was fantastic. I’ll take Ed and the hired musicians over the months upon months of silence we suffered through. Let Ed move away from the drama and the band mates who aren’t feeling it anymore and be able to do his art, what he loves. Enjoy it for what it is. If not, move on as well.

I agree - I can’t understand the perspective that Ed is the bad guy here, at all. Besides for perhaps having a lead singer ego, I can’t point to anything he’s done “wrong”.

You've just described the precise reasons why Shinn was never a good fit for fronting any band. Doesn't make him a bad person; makes him a horrible lead singer & front man of a band.

I might have missed it in the Rolling Stone interview, but seeing as Shinn is now speaking up about his struggles while in the band Live, did Shinn detail his long-standing alcohol abuse and the problems that it brought to the band during his tenure?

I remember he mentioned being in therapy, but I don't remember him specifically mentioning anything about alcohol abuse.

But I suppose that would be a big problem with the others, who I assume were all as dry as the Sahara while writing, recording, and touring for The Turn. Right?

The fact none of CCP wrote a single word on The Turn leads me to the conclusion it's not even a Live album. It's a Jerry Hairston-Chris Shinn album, with CCP as the backing band. As good of a record as it is, I get why Ed and CCP wouldn't want it on streaming services: It's not really theirs.

I can see why Ed would remove it. Why should Ed and any future members of Live get any revenue from streaming The Turn when no one in current Live had a part in making it? The revenues from streaming would be so small it would be worth CCP hiring a lawyer to fight with Shinn over if he is entitled to anything from those streams, so maybe that's why they aren't fighting to get them returned.

As for the article, I felt Shinn's quote that Live is the most unmusical band he's ever been in to be highly relatable. Regardless of how you feel about Shinn, that seems to feel pretty true.

Axl Rose uses a Teleprompter, and I'd say he's a pretty OK frontman.

After reading Shinn's interview, it makes the now-infamous line from the tour announcement news release all the more confounding: "the band’s classic lineup is unavailable due to various extenuating circumstances..."

The million dollar question is WHO poked Rolling Stone and said hey I think you should randomly do an interview with Shinn nervous.gif

I think the answer to that is in the first line of the interview: "Rolling Stone‘s interview series King for a Day features long-form conversations between senior writer Andy Greene and singers who had the difficult job of fronting major rock bands after the departure of an iconic vocalist."

My guess, based on my past life working in media, is that the writer knows his stuff and knew Live was starting a tour and knew CS had an album out and tried to tie it all together. That's how they do it. If it were released a year ago, it would have been seen as CS with an axe to grind.

What Live tracks in the 90's did CCP write any words on?

I agree that his voice sounded good....when it was actually sung into the microphone! Or when he sung the actual words! A lot of potential wasted on wavering execution and lack of fandom.

Also maybe he improved by the time they toured your part of the world

All the large artists have a teleprompter present, but I can guarantee you none of them look down at it.

Hand-written lyrics to songs you've been performing for 4 years is pure laziness.

Ed had lyrics to Imagine taped to the floor. Not the most complicated song in the world. I think it is just so much easier to remember your own lyrics than those from others.

Then again, Chris was sure not all too experienced to front a band but I could feel his enthusiasm through all of it. It made him very real.
