I'm not sure if it's a conspiracy, but many 90s bands these days are just the lead singer and touring musicians. It's how the lead singer can make the most money -- the profits are all his and the musicians costs are fixed. The singer also gets to be in charge, and play with who he wants to play with.

Conspiracy or not, I think given the tumultuous history with CCP, Ed saw an opportunity to take control of the band and pounced on it. Now that he has it, I don't see why he would ever let the others back in. Ed will make more money without them and can do everything his way. Ed wanting total creative control seems to be supported by many actions over the years.

Ed said he controls 55% of the band. Gracey said, what Ed meant by that, is Gracey used his 15% voting power to vote with Ed to fire CT. But after that, Gracey and Pat are now out of the picture. I think it's one of two things. Either Gracey misunderstood or was tricked into signing something that gave his rights away to Ed permanently or temporarily, or some deal was struck so Ed could tour using the Live name while Pat and Gracey dealt with legal problems.

It really would not surprise me though if Ed tricked Gracey. Ed unfollowed Pat and Gracey. Ed said that one or more of CCP admitted that the lawsuit, that nearly ruined his life, was vindictive and unsupported, and said he couldn't regain trust from people who use that kind of action.

My theory is that Gracey is pissed at CT. In being pissed at CT, he was looking for a new leader, and turned to Ed. In an attempt to cozy up to Ed, he told Ed the lawsuit had no merit. This then backfired in his face. Ed now hates Gracey, and tricked him into giving him control. Once Ed had it, he stuck his middle finger up to Gracey and fired him.

Based on how I've seen Gracey interact with people online, he would never admit he got played. But I think that's what happened.

All this said, I am purely speculating and have no inside information. These are real people and don't take my theories as truth in any way. I hope I'm wrong, but with the extremely limited amount of information we have, these are the theories swirling around in my head.

Gracey was actually fooled by Ed's evil twin brother, Ed-2 who secretly made him sign his soul to Ed, Ed-2 and Adam and now he must keep a YouTube channel up to date with him playing over himself on record for eternity even after death thanks to a voodoo ritual performed by Veronica Taylor, the evil twin sister of Chad and Chet Taylor, who are actually triplets from two different mothers. She had to tie Patrick in a cave on a beach in California for the ritual...


Or... they had other shit to do or other obligations and Ed wanted to tour right now after years of not touring and eventually Gracey will join him again, hence his practice videos and maybe even Patrick. But like it's been said, 90's bands with the lead singer playing with other people is no uncommon. The Smashing Pumpkins, Bush even Guns 'n' Roses to some extent. But who knows at this point.

Although, there's been so much drama in this fucking band in the last 10 years that my first paragraph is not completely impossible.

First show back is next week. Does anybody have any guesses about what the set list will be like? Will it be a greatest hits show, focused on a particular album, will it include some Ed Kowalczyk solo material, will there be any new tracks? How many songs do you think will be in the set?

Has anybody seen any promotional material? Has Ed appeared on any radio stations or been interviewed for a newspaper or web site?

It sums up pretty well all gigs in the last decade (excl The Turn tour). I would not count on EK material or any deep album cuts.

Nick Jay writes he will be playing keys on 3 shows on this tour.

Guess I was wrong about the setlist. They've played the hits of course, but also some deeper cuts like Hold Me Up, Freaks, Stage and Mother Earth Is a Vicious Crowd. And... Brothers Unaware, only played at a handful of shows back in the early days!

Setlist counts 19 songs, so I guess a good 1.5 hours.
