Chad also saying he wants to play songs like “gas head goes west” and “freaks” as a positive.

Also said he has to talk to Eddie about that lol.

Jerry Harrison wrote all the lyrics on the Turn was another takeaway.

QUOTE(Merica @ Dec 15 2016, 5:43 pm) *
...four tracks (By Design, Need Tonight, The Strength to Hold On and We Open the Door) have only Chris Shinn and Bruce Wallace down as writing lyrics. And then there's 6310 Rodgerton Dr. which is Chris' personal story - so I think he possibly had a little something to do with that one as well. And as you can read above, he had the music for Till You Came Around before he came into Live.

So I dunno. Maybe, just maybe... this revisionist, minimising of Chris' input is bullshit.

Yup, I hit you with a quote on this board from 6 years ago. Let's not give CG too much credit. He doesn't even know what album Voodoo lady is on. I also recall several people behind the lyrics of Sirens Call, not sure where I read this. Are credits on the album?

It was very nice of Chad to participate in the interview but seems like he knows very little about the band or didn’t have many opinions. Is it so hard to answer favorite song or city? Seems like those are obvious questions. Not like he was asked the inspiration behind Meltdown.

I think a lot of fans of various bands would be surprised to find out that they know more about their favorite band than several or even all of the members. For many musicians, even those in a band for three decades or more, it’s just a gig they do for a few hours each night when on tour and a week in the studio for a new album. They don’t live and breathe the band. Not a criticism of fans or musicians at all, just sharing what I’ve learned. shrug.gif

Thank you for saying this. I didn’t want to say it first, since I’m always seen as critical or one of those “crazy” Līve fans. I appreciate the time CG took to do the podcast but I’m sorry, the “I don’t knows” and all times he said “sure” made it boring. That’s why I asked if Bill could try to get Ed on for one. Or all 4 of them. I’m serious.

I wonder if it'd be worth someone getting in touch to ask him to speak a little on his time working with CCCP and Jerry. He doesn't seem to post on his Twitter anymore, but he's also on Facebook so that could be a thing....

Have to highlight your post. This is spot on. Especially Live fans, they’re just insufferable dreamers with unrealistic visions. Heck, sometimes I have some unrealistic thoughts on what should be done, but I know from personal interactions and just rational thought, what is real and what will be brought forth.

At some point does reality overtake your thinking process and realize each band member has their own lives to live. The band 24/7 like it was in the early years is no more.

They all got day to day family stuff to handle, some more than others.

If Gracey can’t remember his favorite city it’s more perhaps he’s got too many to call favorites, etc.

I’d venture a guess things will be more quiet until logistics on some shows can materialize

I’m sure Ed’s got some new material to bring to the band

Shit, he had some good stuff from 2016 that was great ensemble pieces

Keep the faith but keep it real. All kidding aside. Some more reality should hit the wall eventually

I hope something comes of this recent action. Seems like Live occasionally shows minor signs of life but eventually always hits the wall.

"It's the way, we sing that makes em dream."

Blame the band for setting the bar so high in such a short amount of time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I finally got around to watching the Friends reunion special last night. Watching them now, 18 years after the show ended, with how much life has aged them (Matt LeBlanc looks like Joey's grandpa with all that grey) just in the last 10 years, it made me realize something I already knew was true about pretty much anything. Nothing lasts forever. Hell, Lisa Kudrow is almost 60 years old now. Life keeps its own time.

The peculiar thing about it is that Live really blew up into the mid-90's cultural zeitgeist around the same exact time as Friends did in 94. And they kind of started falling out of it at around the same time too in around 2000/2001. It's a special place to exist in. Few ever reach it, even fewer stay there for very long, and no one stays there forever.

The band can keep playing shows and even recording music, when opportunity and inspiration arises. But I know they aren't 25 years old anymore. They aren't the same people who wrote, recorded, and toured behind TC, SS, and TDTH. The past is the past. You can't re-obtain it. The best you can hope to do is make newer history before you are history.

And on that cheery note... *poof*

The 90’s were an incredible decade, most definitely. I don’t have the delusion of Līve ever regaining that epic level of notoriety. However, I refuse to accept their ages as an excuse for them being stagnant.

Have you seen the Red Hot Chili Peppers lately? They are 8 to 9 years older than Līve. The album they released this year, Unlimited Love, with 17 tracks, is INCREDIBLE. It’s their best music in 20 years. They are releasing a follow up album, Canteen Dream, in October. Two albums in a year. TWO! On their tour, they are playing 18 songs and each night, the setlist is different. Anthony & Flea are all over the stage.

Age is just a number.
