Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and that is ok.

I just want to offer the newbie the counterpoint - from the guy who coined Loyve and is spearheading the anti-loy movement lol

I think he's just an adult contemporary studio musician. And honestly, he probably caters well to Live's aging fanbase. No doubt alot of fans are in their 40's and 50's and have probably slowed down quite a bit.

Chad would call his guitar artistry a form of meditation, and you can hear it in the clips he posted on FB, or during any of his SS solos in concert. I think Loy's style is just so uninspired, mediocre, and not rocking, that I think the band cannot be called Live with Loy playing in it, IMO.

Hearing Loy try to copy the lakini's juice riff is tear inducing. Listening to that VH1 style extended solo during the distance is a vast evolution away from everything that was cool about Live, IMO. Hopefully Daughty Loy and Railo form a band so we can shed the watered down copycat adult contemporary fat from the Live rock fanbase lmao
Plus Loy recently tried to say that Live are doing well - so he can't be trusted.

Live is doing well. Maybe he knew something you didn’t know.
It is more WELL than it has been in the past 15 years. That is for sure.

The band was obviously not doing well at the time he mentioned it

I think I am missing something. Between the other thread about Live being back and some posts on Instagram was there some announcement about a revival? What is the deal yo?

Let me use an Aussie sporting 'cricket' term here, regarding your comment.

Zak clearly played with a straight bat. That is , he didn't attack the ball, he just played a defensive stroke.

No doubt he'd be aware of what was bubbly behind the scenes. He's not the type to 'Sell The Drama' on social media. I don't know if you've ever met the guy, but he's so down to earth. You could easily sit down with him and have a drink.

But if Local 717 is the future, can they stay in the ashes? SFBM is Throwing Copper compared to that monstrosity.

At some point Live needs to be compared to the Simpsons.....a great run in the 90s, but a lot of unwatchable stuff since.

Here is a video of Zak with Ed's band playing Lakini's Juice at the Chameleon Club: https://youtu.be/DC2rS57pTjA

And here is Chad playing LJ at the same venue one week earlier: https://youtu.be/owrC3JJzz-8

I don't have a great ear for these things, but what is the primary difference you hear in the riff? If you blindfolded me I couldn't tell you which is better.

I also wonder if Zak played differently as the lead guitarist in Ed's band versus the rythym guitarist in Live. Zak definitely ran around the stage way more when he was the lead in Ed's solo band.

The differences are subtle,, but they are there. Especially from the recorded version, which CT strays from sometimes. The harmonics is something CT started doing regularly at one point, which isn't something he did on the original. Also, Loy is often a little too on the beat when he hits the chords. CT has always seemed to play them slightly behind the beat. He hits them on the nose too sometimes though so it's a negligible difference.

Honestly, it just comes down to the fact that CT wrote the riff (or did he?) and he's just going to have more of a natural feel for how to play the riff because of it. But as for what people prefer? Most aren't listening for differences like those so they really aren't relevant. And CT is gone now so even if those differences were more noticeable to everyone it wouldn't matter.

About a decade ago, +Ed+ from this board along with some of us sent a long list of questions to CT and he gave what we thought at the time was such an honest, heart felt and detailed reply...

Seeing fans here question the authenticity of the band and origins of riffs etc is heavy...

Really feels...strange.

Well, that's what happens when people engage in deceptions and manipulations and fornications and and and. You start to wonder what was real and what wasn't.

I have no doubt Lakini's Juice was CT's baby. I mean, just because CT may have done some vile shit it doesn't take away from what he did back in the day, or even take away from who he may have been back then. People often change, either for the better or for the worse.

He wrote the riff. The story I recall from back in the day was that Ed left, he came up with it, and kept playing it until Ed returned so he could share it with him.
