Mentioned this in the hiatus thread, but perhaps it deserves a thread of its own. I mean, there is nothing else to talk about.

Would you all flip out if Līve replaced CG and moved on? I know he’s the favorite drummer of many-a-Līve fan. But what if he’s the hold up (as been mentioned before)? How would a replacement make you feel? Which drummer, Ed’s solo dude or the tandem dude, would you want? Or would you want someone totally different, and if so, whom?

Maybe it's because I've been following Candlebox for many years now and I've seen them go through a handful of drummers in that time (Scott Mercado, Dave Krusen, BJ Kerwin, Robin Diaz), but I don't think it would be that bad. You'll notice it more on new songs at first than you would on existing songs because they can learn the recordings close enough for normal fans to not even notice. We'll pick them apart, sure, but I guarantee my wife wouldn't even notice unless I told her, and I'm guessing a good 90% of the audience that just wants to hear "the hits" on the next Alt-imate tour would feel the same way.

On new songs, we'll absolutely miss the CG flourishes and his "isms", but it wouldn't likely be Earth shatteringly different, all things considered. The new drummer will have his own style and flourishes, some of which we'll like and some we'll bash, but then those will fade along with all the GRACEY VS NEW GUY - A THREAD posts this site would inevitably see for months. As long as he's not phoning it in and trying his damndest, it would be fine. I know it's still a sore subject here, but it'll be exactly like the Ed vs Shinn debate.

I don't know who I'd choose. I don't remember Ed's solo guy, and I didn't like what Robin Diaz brought to the table, though I blame that on not letting him play by himself for the whole tour so we could get a good sense of what he can actually do. Two drummers playing the exact same parts in every song was a baaaaad idea.

Dave Krusen would crush it as their studio musician, but he likely wouldn't tour. There are a crapload of touring drummers that would come in and do fine, but as far as a permanent member? I'd have to think on that. Sorry for the non-answer.

I can tell you one thing: I'd audition just to see what would happen.

Speaking of auditions, if they ever replaced CG, I'd like to see Live do what Dream Theater did when they replaced Mike Portnoy after he left: hold auditions, record all of it, and share out the entire process and reveal on the day they announce their new record/tour.

Here's part 1 of 3 for funsies:

wow, interesting stuff there. What if we turned flipped it around and asked New Guitarist?

Cool to see thoughts from a drummer’s perspective. Would love the transparency of auditions (hypothetically) as Dream Theater did. Get fans involved in selecting, even.
Bob for the new Līve drummer!!!!

these topics on drumming and guitaring went into the black hole. Wonder why no one continued the discussion.

Sadly, there’s not a lot of people posting here anymore because there’s nothing in Līve-land to discuss. When I start a thread, I always have hope that it will get more people back to conversing. Temporarily replacing a band member for a tour is a reasonable, legitimate topic for discussion. It can’t hurt to ask people their thoughts on it.

However, now that we’ve now learned that Pat is going to replace a bassist for someone else, Līve is done for the unforeseeable future.

Chad G has become a licensed insurance agent in CA. I was wondering if that means his days on stage are over? Anyone have any insight? (Also, I've been out of the loop for quite a while so I'm digging into these threads and catching up! I used to post here but I don't remember what my user name was 🤦😂)

Welcome back. It has been speculated here that the insurance venture may not even be true, and perhaps CG is trolling fans with that. Who knows for sure.

seems legit. I'm sure he could drum and bind policies.
