I was surfing Kevin Martin's Twitter page tonight and he linked to this poll back in April that I thought would be fun to discuss the results:

Twitter

Google Translated:

"On today's # Radio2 we put Seattle's rock heavyweights aside and ask you: What is the best post-grunge band for you?"

The final results, with 464 votes:

Candlebox: 51.9% (240 votes)
Bush: 22.4% (103 votes)
Live: 7.8% (36 votes)
Creed: 17.9% (83 votes)

Agree? Disagree? Should Live have ranked so low? Were there any other bands that should have been included?

First, I love how Kevin Martin interacts with fans. I’m one of the 36 people who voted for Līve in this poll. If it weren’t for the Candlebox — Līve connection, they would never made the ranking because they fell off the map after 1999.

Secondly, since Līve’s reunion, I’ve expected a Candlebox/Līve tour and am actually quite flabbergasted it hasn’t happened yet. Any guesses as to why?

My favorite post grunge band next to Līve is Stone Temple Pilots. Scott W. was one of the greatest frontmen EVER. They are often lumped in as “grunge” with Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam. Nooo, no, no. They are not grunge, people. They are a kick ass hard rock band. My third place vote would then go to Bush. I was indifferent to them until seeing them on tour with Līve. Very impressive. I actually thought they blew Līve’s away. Been frequently listening to them since.

For me, Live is by far the best band in that poll.

I rather follow an inactive Live, than an active Candlebox or Bush....lol

They definitely are the best band in that poll. But I don’t think Līve even realizes that for themselves.

I’m the opposite on inactivity. I need new music & and band members to act as though they care about their masses or I get bored and lose interest.

That's a definite. I wish that Ed would post an update.

Candlebox means TGF. The reunion was about not talking about side projects or anything outside the four together. Could be it.

Oh btw, how sad I already talk about ‘the reunion was...’ We all have barely any hope left.

Oh btw2, I dreamed last night I saw The River on a new/recent setlist (and I think one or two other SFBM songs). What could that mean? They at least performed in my dream, haha!

Post-grunge would be after grunge. All of those bands would have been prevalent during grunge so none of the really qualify for the poll. If you go with his poll timeframe it seems to me that DMB or Metallica would be the largest non-grunge bands from the time period who have stayed the most active and maintained the largest followings since the 90's.

For me, Candlebox and Creed wouldn't have been considered for the poll. Obviously Candlebox would win a poll voted on by people who follow Kevin.

Same reason why Ed probably doesn't want anything to do with Shinn. Martin replaced him.

STP sure started out with some grunge hits. Tiny Music really departed from it.

I was at the Live and Candlebox show in NH in June 2009.

Tense wasn't even the word for the atmosphere on stage. It was rough and uncomfortable.

Didn’t know it was like that.
Bummer.

Smashing Pumpkins and Radiohead are not post grunge, they just aren't grunge. Neither band was formed in the wake of grunge, or with much influence from grunge either.

gotcha.

I'd say Live, Bush, and 3EB then.

Thanks Bremang.

Well then, mine are Līve, Incubus, & Collective Soul.
*Bush 4th place.

Brides of Destruction are on the wiki list. Wow. They were cool.
