HI all,

to open the week-end, let's play a bit. What is the moment that really surprised you when you heard a song or a music part fort the first time? I'll name 2, staying on the positive side this time.

1- When I heard Lakini's Juice for the first time. God I was happy that the first single of the record after LC was a rocker. That chainsaw guitar riff was played so loud at home and the end part could play in loop for minutes. My favorite D-A# moment ever! And it was also so loud when they played it in the pub I was going. Production of that record is great.


2- the beginning of The distance. So unexpected after the fade out of TDC. This one's always had a soft spot for me, no particular reason, a bit like Out to Dry. Remember exactly where I was and was stunned by that low-key voice. Harpsycord was a nice touch to it as well.

Hi there. Nice topic. Here are two that surprised me.

1. Operation Spirit
It was my first time hearing/seeing Līve and it was on MTV. I had just turned 16. Had spent my time to that point loving hard rock and glam metal (still one of my loves), but that day Līve stole my heart. It was fresh and surprising to like something new and different. I remember comparing them to Nirvana who at the time was all the rage & I could not stand them (for “ruining” glam metal and their depressing nature). OS seemed contemplative but happy. They gave the impression they were just good, simple guys I could relate to, but they were a little mysterious snd intriguing at the same time. I went out and bought it (cassette). That album is deeply personal to me. It changed my way of thinking about politics, religion, and the world. It was a time of maturity, really.

2. The Dolphin’s Cry
I had several life changing events in 1998 and 1999. One of them was a new job and moving over a thousand miles from home. I didn’t hear TDC until buying the album. I remember playing it for the first time & it was surprising to hear them in a new, different direction again. Loved it, as it was a cathartic experience for me at the time. After exploring and experiencing the album, I settled on DC & I listened to that song on a loop continually, especially in the mornings driving to work for what seems like a year. I believe it truly helped with my loneliness and stress at the time. Līve was like having an old friend around.

They’ve always meant a lot to me and will forever have my heart no matter how things might go.

Dude, that opening still hits me out of nowhere. Just seeing Ed soaking wet, slowing standing up, then that upward shot of him as he belts out "The way you're bathed in light reminds me of that night..." sent chills up my spine.

I swear, The Dolphins Cry was one of Live's most theatrical music videos, right alongside Freaks and Run to the Water.

It debuted on TRL at #9 and Carson Daly was like wtf is this nonsense, it's not britney or limp bizkit. The following show Live made it on the countdown again and they played like 5 seconds of the video and skipped over it.
