Imagine: only one of the CCP-albums between 2010 en 2014 was made, which one would you choose?
Maybe a stupid discussion, as we got both haha, but just to push everyone to think about which is their favorite. They aren't really comparable as they have two quite different sounding singers plus the genre is not the same: classic rock (kind of a Led Zeppelin throwback feel) vs modern rock with bigh LIVE influences (tho not exactly LIVE to me). But the fact they are both made during the hiatus and both are made by CCP as the driving force, I think it's nice to compare them anyway.

To me it's not really easy to choose, both are very good and I like a lot of songs, but I gotta go with the TGF-album. Just think about Tredecim, the heartfelt "oh"'s just before a wonderfull solo kicks in near the end of Crying Time. Or the big classic rocksong that Honest Man is. I love the whole album, from Appetite to All I Hear. Still it's hard to compete with songs like 6310 Rodgerton Dr., I mean, what a song. Or We Open the Door (one of my favorites off the Turn) and Siren's Call. Not easy, huh.

But whenI think about which one could stand the test of time the best, to me the TGF-album sounds more like a classic album that I will play now and then, my whole life!

Siren's Call is my favorite track of the two albums but overall quality I think goes to TGF

I think both are really strong albums, the TGF is really killer. At the time it came out, I would have been happy for them to just ditch Live and make that their main band.

I've gone for The Turn just because it meant so much to have the true spirit of Live soar one final time. That said, I've no problem with anybody going for TGF or considering to be the better album. It's a belter. They both are.

The Gracious Few had more high quality songs on it than The Turn did. The Turn was good, but some of the songs were a bit derivative of the songs on Throwing Copper. But I'd say the potential with CCCP was greater. And probably the opportunity to continue was greater as Kevin and Sean would have had to split their time between TGF and Candlebox. With CCCP it was the only thing they had going on. It's a shame they only ever put out one album.

It's an even bigger shame the album got dementia and forgot that it ever existed.

Even taking the whole Live 2.0 idea out of the equation, for me The Turn starts and ends with Siren's Call. Very good song on what I consider a forgettable album. Even if this project was under a different name like TGF I wouldn't be interested in more.

IMO, with the exception of one or two, TGF has pretty solid tracks from start to finish. Unfortunately, like Them Crooked Vultures and others, this blended group was a one off. I really wish they would revisit this project. I don't know that it had commercial potential but there was definitely potential for more good music.

Would be great if they could simply get back to making music at all.

Just keep it TGF and bring on a new lead singer every album

The first time i listened to some of the songs on TGF I remember thinking that it wasn’t that good and I didn’t listen to the album again for years. Honest Man I liked but everything else I just didn’t care for.

When The Turn came out I bought it the same day (Google Play!) and thought it was great. Not every song, but more than enough to make it a good album. I listened to it a lot those first weeks out.

Now I rarely listen to The Turn but find myself playing TGF fairly frequently and listening to every song. It’s not my favorite album but I have an appreciation for it and think it’s really, really good.

Another interesting thing I remember. Shortly after TGF was released (or maybe it was a while after) I was in a Best Buy looking for a cd for a long car ride. In one hand I had TGF and in the other I had Alive. Ultimately I chose to buy Alive (a purchase I do not necessarily regret). That’s not interesting because of the choice I made but because once upon a time you could actually find Ed solo and TGF in big box retail stores.

I wonder if Local 717 ever saw the inside of a store.

Once upon a time you could find most popular music in big box retail stores. Of all the criticisms you could levy against Local 717, this is hardly one it deserves.

I told my friends about TGF and didn't tell anyone about the turn. Easy vote.

Not meant to be a criticism as much as an observation. Alive and TGF were not widely expected or popular albums yet a Best Buy with a very limited CD selection had both. The cd selection at Best Buy isn’t all that much smaller these days but I doubt you’d find any Live related music there.

I beg to differ, there really isn’t an active music selection in-store at Best Buy. In 2018 they announced an initiative to stop selling cds at the store. So on the odd chance you come across a cd, a mid-popularity group isn’t going to be in sight. Let’s face it, T-Swift and many other pop and country acts are more readily out there.

My two sense.

TGF.

I wasn’t even a Candlebox fan, didn’t like them at all. But TGF just worked.
