Here is an unheard tape of Live performing some early versions of tracks that were to appear on The Distance to Here.

Both FLAC and MP3 versions are available.

I'm posting this in the Live Central forum so that it maximizes visibility. After a few weeks it will be moved to the Multimedia forum

Super cool version of Run to the Water with the "Dolphin's Cry" lyric snippet. Thank you for posting these!

Very interesting....

A lot of the changes were made to fit regular song formats. A lot of theses demos are long, sometimes too long like Voodoo Lady.

Also, I really prefer that guitar part during Suffer the wound in FTQRR. They should have kept it higher in the mix.

Even the way they changed the vocal melody in RTTW was to made it more radio friendly, but since it's humming probably they were still working on it.

Thank you very much for sharing.

This is awesome, thank you!!

Its interesting to see how the songs evolved into the studio versions. The demos much more grungy, in a good way. TDTH is an incredible album but it could've been much better. This version of Voodoo lady rocks.

Love the b-sides and demos from this era.

Great move putting it here for more visibility. This feels like an official release - This is one of the best versions of Deeper I have heard. Gives me chills hearing it and slowing the song down ever so slightly increases the power of the whole song. It has the same pattern of Lightning Crashes where it builds up to a climax and then resolution. There is a funny part in the middle with indeterminate lyrics that I'm sure was filler.

The Voodoo lady line about murdering a clown is hilarious. I'm not surprised it got removed.

The Run to the Water seems very U2. It sounds like a whole different song.

Nice one Ridley, that artwork is great.

It was nothing! I just sepia'd and edited the TDC single art as I thought the empty room fit the vibe of these early demos.

Thanks to everyone involved in getting this audio shared, hopefully we'll get even more goodies from this era as we head towards the 25th anniversary of the album thumbsup.gif

Btw, has anyone in the band confirmed yet that they intend to do 25th anniversary editions of Secret Samadhi in 2022 and TDTH in 2024?

With Live's forward planning it will probably be 2023 before we hear about SS

Awesome share thanks!!

Yeah, Live seems to be the only band (i follow) that doesn't really treat their backcatalogue with the same care as other bands.

Wonder what is still in the vault and if they have total control over it.

If there's one thing certain about Līve it's that they are the 180 degree opposite of a band like the Smashing Pumpkins/Billy Corgan. Fans of that band drown in b-sides, rarities, re-masters, c-sides, d-sides, live performances, and covers.

It took Līve two decades to release a single song that for years fans had been clamoring for. And by the time they did many of the fans that actually gave a shit had mostly stopped giving a shit.

But hey, every band has its "process". ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And then they didn't play that song in concert during their tour..

I hate to admit this, but the band does the absolute minimum to still be considered a "band".

Have been essentially radio silent the last few months while almost every other band has tried to do SOMETHING for their fans.
