Voting soon in the primaries for who I want to run against him. Then voting for whoever does run against him.

Sadly, it's more to do with America's systemic racism and Trump being the way he is. Things we all already knew. Well, those of us not willfully blind to it, anyway.

My prediction was a percentage play, really. It was only a matter of time. Grim, but true.

Dude, theres been the same black-guy racist-white-cop asshole-president situation for as long as the US has been around. Practically no riots. You called it Merica. Hell, you deserve to own the moniker “Merica” for that call. I bet your post would go viral if it wasn’t invisible buried and a dead band’s sub-board

Covid spiking in Oklahoma reaching record highs during a pandemic amid national racial injustice protests. All major events such as concerts and sports have been cancelled nation wide.

Trump - let's hold an indoor rally in Oklahoma on Juneteenth.

Trump Supporters - we're already in line!

World - please remember that Trump did not get the majority vote last election.

Indeed. Our system is fucked up in the states - the president rarely has the majority vote and if you lose an election, you win no power to negotiate. It's a winner take all system and 3 states basically choose the president - Florida, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Trump has Florida in the bag, Biden likely has Pennsylvania due to his Scranton roots, but Ohio? This is a state with extreme racial tension on both sides.

I predict it will be a close race and that terrifies me. Trump won't give up if it is close and he loses. He will say Dems cheated and refuse to transition power. Still, I maintain that he's probably going to win in 2020. Either way, it doesn't bode well.

Also, we need a new LIVE album, wtf folks.

I’d highly recommend https://www.electoral-vote.com/ for those interested in seeing how the polling looks for the electoral college on any given day. The commentary on this site is pretty good too though it’s a bit left leaning so those on the right may not be as interested in the stuff below the map.

For those not wanting to click the link, Trump’s state by state polling is way off his 2016 numbers which barely put him over the top 4 years ago.

The fact that the electoral college is still in place in American politics is amazing. It is an outdated system that deters some people from voting. The fact that it has put two people into the presidency within the past 20 years with a minority vote shows what a broken system it is.

I’d say it’s more a sign of how hard it is to change the system in America. Think about this, you could change immigration laws with a simple act of Congress and a presidential signature. Yet both Bush and Obama failed when they controlled majorities. Now you have the electoral college which would require a constitutional amendment. Good luck!

At the same time if being president just requires the most votes you’d likely see a lot more than just 2 candidates running and there would be almost no chance of anyone getting a majority. Most likely you’d have 3 to 5 candidates with the winner pulling in 35-40%. Sure they US could switch to a parliamentary system but you can argue that the Republicans and Democrats are basically just large coalitions of different groups as it is now and not much would really change.

A parliamentary system might give those factions a little more room to budge on specific issues. I think any increase in cooperation would be a good thing at this point.

Judging by how things are going in the U.S., it's going to be another 4 more years with Trump. More if he declares himself president for life. uhoh.gif

Hillary Clinton won the California vote by 4M people, more than twice the amount she won in the popular vote nationwide.

The electoral college is in place to ensure that populous states can't dominate the election. The fact that California wasn't able to change the election all by itself shows that it works. You can hate Trump all you want, but Trump isn't the one who designed the electoral college. And it wasn't designed just for him.

This isn't 1776!

The electoral college is a dated idea. It ensures that your personal vote in a national election is relegated the state you reside, sometimes rendering it completely useless.

For example, a republican in California has zero say when voting for president, other than the point of saying they voted. Their vote literally does not count.

Each vote should count as one vote, regardless of where you live or who you vote for. A candidate should never win an election with fewer overall votes than the loser.

An election for president should also not be decided by the same 4-5 states every cycle. There are red states,, blue states,, and then states like Florida that get to decide every election for the country. That is a broken system. Why is so much power given to a handful of states through this system?

An individual vote in Florida is worth way more than an individual vote in Colorado, New York, Texas, California, West Virginia, etc. That's completely absurd.

In a modern society there is no way to justify the electoral college. Grouping an individuals vote by the state they live in is a sham.

That has absolutely nothing to do with Trump or any other candidate.

I think the founders of the united states never intended to have everyone be able to vote. They were elitists and thought that if you gave the poorest and least educated the ability to vote they would either have their votes bought or vote in really dumb ways. They actually may have a point. I would love to see at least a high school degree required to vote, but it would surely be crucified as antipoor/immigrant/non-white even though that's not the intention. I also don't see it being a republican or democrat thing.

Do you believe that the majority is always right by virtue of being the majority?

I will never agree with mob rule. Might should not be allowed to equal right. And that would be just as true in 2176 as it was in 1776.

What is with this preoccupation with the modernity of anything? What dusty ass difference does it make what year it is? Calendars aren't magic.

It is not the United STATE of America. People choose to live in one state over the other, or in one city over another, because they have differing opinions about what direction their lives, and by association this country, should head in. Like I said in the previous post, the reason for the electoral college is so that a few populous states can't dictate policy for the rest of the country. That is a good thing, not a bad thing. If you don't agree that's fine. We'll just have to agree to disagree.
