20 years ago today, Fight Club was released in the US. Apart from being a great movie, it also features a cameo performance by Ed Kowalczyk as a waiter.

Ed only has a couple of lines. If you haven't seen it, here's the scene.

What are your thoughts on Ed's performance?
Did you first watch the movie at the cinema or did you discover it on DVD?
Were you aware that Ed was in the movie or was it a complete surprise when he popped up?

I was listening to the commentary track on the Blu-ray and David Fincher said that Ed was a big fan of the book and he wanted to be in the movie. David says he was 'incredibly flattered' and Ed was available for a couple of days during the tour to shoot the diner scene. Due to some filming issues they needed to re-shoot the scene so Ed has to come back at a later date.

Ed's acting wasn't too far off from his rock star persona as a weird kinda guy. Saw in theaters and had no idea Ed was going to be in the movie. ed came on and i was a bit shocked and wasn't sure if it was him at first, then i realized it definitely was and realized i loved the movie even more. one of my faves.

I was in high school and with friends, meeting my girlfriend there. I got tickets for me and her, only to find out when she got there that her dad wouldn’t let her see it because it was too violent. I ended up smoking and then banging her out in the backseat of her car instead. Good call, Daddy-O!

I didn’t end up seeing the movie until the following summer when I rented it on VHS tape from Blockbuster. I had already seen them on the TDTH tour by then and remember thinking even at the time how striking it was how much Ed had apparently changed from the time of filming to the TDTH tour. What I take from all of this is that I was renting VHS tapes from Blockbuster the last time Live was relevant.

I saw it in the theater after a fair amount of reluctance. Several of my friends were obsessed with this movie in a way that made it sound overhyped and silly. I finally saw it and thought it wasn't bad, but not Earth-shattering or anything. I think Ed's performance was fine, knowing it was Ed made it seem absurd and kinda hilarious (not in a bad way).

I thought Ed's performance was fantastic! Norton, I mean. Kowalczyk was okay.

I was very much aware that Ed was in the movie before it came out, but at that time I was running not just the discography but also a fan page called Good Pain Lies On The Riverside, so I kinda had to be on the up-and-up with Live news smile.gif

When was the last time they played Good Pain? For a song that made it onto three of their studio releases, it sure doesn't get a lot of airtime.

that's cause Ed has to be a savage in that song, I imagine it died in the mid 90's. Probably on March 12, 1995

I saw that on setlist.fm too, I just didn't believe it. I think they could do it, but you're right, he'd have to sing it differently now.

This is a Fight Club thread, so I guess I'm gonna defer back to the topic now.
