True, Meltdown is one of my top 5 favorite Live songs and def not the start of Ed solo songs! Go watch that 1998 live recording.

And I agree about the lyrics on TDTH too. Awesome era for their songwriting

Same, and agreed.

Perhaps there was a ghostwriter? Talk about writer's block.

I don't think there's a ghostwriter, there's too much of his old lyric style in the new stuff. I read somewhere that he does stream-of-consciousness lyrics now. To me, that pretty much explains everything. He needs to knock that shit off and go back to using a notebook, like immediately.

Oh, no doubt TDTH has the best poetry Ed ever wrote. I’m not taking that away from him at all. But stylistically, I think we can all agree that’s when things changed.

For good measure, I went back and listened to Meltdown. It’s not the worst of the worst on that album, but it still sounds Ed-solo to me. Perhaps it’s the instrumental, not his singing on that one. I dunno, it just doesn’t do anything for me.

Feel the Quiet River Rage, omg, that is TOTAL Ed-solo, from the first word of the first verse. The only thing tolerable is the “suffers the wound...” part (chorus?), because it gets heavy for a sec. Definitely has Live’s style of speeding it up and slowing it back down. So, I’ll compromise. I’ll say FTQRR, is half Līve and half Ed-solo. lol.gif I admit I do like that time years ago when they performed I Alone/FTQRR medley. Can’t remember where it was, but it’s on YouTube.

Now, when V came out, I had just had my first baby, and it was such a crappy album, Līve became the least of my worries. Didn’t like a single song from that one. Overcome 9/11 saved them from dropping off the planet at that time. Those of you who love TDTH from start to finish must’ve been really taken aback by the 180. lol Started missing them a lot around BoP, and was really excited that at least “Like I Do” was sexy and cool.

mattyeagles, sorry to have taken your thread in a different direction. I just love talking Līve, and the opportunity arose.

Don’t worry about it at all! That’s the beauty of the message board and at least this discussion has been relatively positive and constructive ha. I still don’t agree on FTQRR, sounds like a full live song to me but not worth splitting hair over it.

I remember when the V samples online came out and some people on the old message boards, including myself, thought it was a joke. It wasnt. I can appreciate some of the songs (hero of love, transmit your love, parts of simple creed and deep enough) but overall such a confusing release.

All I said was that his falsetto was awful, this was quite a reaction but nobody disagreed lol.

This is why I like V. Totally off the wall and completely confusing. It makes you think, even if all you are thinking is “what the hell were they thinking”.

I should have been more clear, I liked his falsetto, it's one of the reasons I like the album so much. Sorry, LOL.

V is the debut album from the version of Live we have today.

ha! what are you listening to? Those are some of Ed's best and most unique lyrics. The whole band goes off throughout that track

It’s the way he sounds in the first verse. You can’t tell me you don’t hear the first hints of cheese. The lyrics are indeed great, but he did sneak in a “child” here at the end of the first verse. Oh wow, is it the first “child”?! Now I’ll have to go back and look. tongue.gif The band does go off, I acknowledged that.

Agreed. I'll never understand why FTQRR and Gas Hed for that matter were not staples in their set.

Those “unreleased songs” are incredible, up there with anything Live ever wrote.

Preach! It's absolutely criminal that Don't Wait was buried. Not to mention Deeper, Still Aroused, Change etc. TDTH25 could be absolutely stunning if they get it right.

Oh Ed. What happened to you.

Yeah, TDTH definitely brings in the Ed tracks, but it's him at his absolute very best. They're still proper songs from a proper band.

I love that song! It rocks and should have been a single IMO.

I totally heard "just deny that it has a sound" the first time I listened to it.
Still like it better this way.

And now everyone, FFS, tdth is the best record in the history of music!
