I’d like to hear their spin and how it’s the internet’s fault they haven’t played Hold Me Up. Give me a break. They are and always will be my favorite band of all time but they are lazy.

Because this is just a run of the mill co-headlining summer tour with TC as an advertising tool. The celebration and honoring of 25 years of Throwing Copper is occurring in the website store, not on the concert stage. Is what it is, that's what they've decided to do.

Gracey has always been overly sensitive and labels any feedback he doesn't agree with as that person being negative or a complainer. When they announced the Shinn era a few years back, he did the same on Facebook to anyone who dared question the move. He also said something like, "So if Apple lost its CEO, does that mean they should just give up too?"

Yeah but then why release the song?

The set lists are what they are and, for the most part, I agree with you. This is a co-headlining tour and the set is about what we should expect from the hour or so they get on stage every night. BUTTTTT why release the damn song if you're not going to play it in concert? I just can't get over that one aspect.

They must have gotten more $ for royalties in Zack and Miri cause they were playing Hold Me Up a bunch back then.

Yup. Just another bizarre decision without any rational explanation during this reunion. I’m still happy they reunited but very little rational thought has contributed to most of their artistic decisions.

Me neither.

The conversation includes Bill Hynes telling fans that promoters demand artists play certain songs. I don’t see a promoter demanding Līve play “Losing My Religion” and “Paint It Black.” shrug.gif

Yeah, the covers are definitely just Live having fun or whatever, which is FINE, but a poor choice for THIS TOUR if THIS TOUR is really celebrating 25 years of this particular album. Put two more album tracks in there. (And geez, maybe practice a little bit and get the covers right and the words correct before the 3rd or 4th show of the tour...)

BUT, the above DOES explain something!! It's why "Heaven" is part of the show. "Heaven" was a big hit in Europe, so I bet the promoters for some of the overseas shows require that single to be part of the setlist, so instead of just adding it for those particular shows, Live has it as part of every single show... because God forbid they swap that one song in for a handful of required shows and play something else off the album they're supposedly celebrating for the rest of the tour dates!

Also... what tour promoter demands, "And do NOT play your new single! We don't want that!"

So yeah, no "Hold Me Up" is just them being too lazy to relearn the song.

And I say ALL of this as someone who LOVES the band and their music. I just recognize them as they are. Happy to coast and pay their bills by doing the minimum... which is fine, they've earned it... I just wish they'd try A LITTLE harder because they're good enough that a little more effort would go A LONG WAY.

Does anyone what to investigate if other Live Nation shows have static setlists? Is it possible Live Nation requires this?

That’s an interesting theory. Off the top of my head, Sebastian Bach is a Live Nation artist. He always has the Skid Row staples, but he does switch up order and length and he ALWAYS switches up his covers. He’s going to soon start touring to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Skid Row’s self entitled debut album and he’s going to play the entire album. He was recently on social media asking the fans’ input of wanting him to perform the album in order or mix up the order. -He had made a poll. I’m curious to see which option he takes and if he will add other songs to the set, especially covers this time around. Just this personal touch of reaching out to the fans for their opinions is one thing Līve is missing.

With that said, I understand Līve needing to include their staple songs in their setlist. I am interested now if promoters really do demand those songs (which would be a given, anyway) and that’s believable. What I’m not falling for is Bill Hynes’ bull crap excuse of wanting us to infer that’s why Līve included the latest covers and not Hold Me Up.

I have never heard of a promoter demanding static setlists. This is just Live being lazy and kowtowing to whatever Ed wants to do (and what CCP is capable of doing).

The majority of the Live concert goers are casuals, and the ticket money is Live's best income stream, so they're going to cater a setlist to the casuals using metrics to decide the most valuable songs. The anniversary reissue is for fans who follow more closely and Hold me Up is just promotion to sell the reissue.
