After hearing the Spotify version, most of the compression issues I had were definitely in the video encoding. Thank goodness. While the end result doesn't QUITE stack up to the actual album songs it is likely just due to modern mastering being shittier, it's a much better result than the initial video. I'm really enjoying this now.

Listening to it in context of the album, I have a feeling this didn't make the cut due to similarities with other songs, specifically Iris and All Over You. Not sure I'd cut either of those in order to make room for this one, but it's a great song and a testament to this being the band's best period of songwriting.

With regards to my notes that the initial master of TC doesn't do much for me - it's personal preference. The CD version of the album doesn't leave as much head room as the '90s masters that I love. It is still a great sounding record, even if the snare sound is a bit dated now.

With regards to whether the guys are nice or not (what does this matter in this thread?), I don't like what they did to The Turn, but my personal experiences with them have been great. I got to work on a couple of non-music and nearly music projects with CT during the TGF days, and got to hang with the Chads and Pat for a long time before and after one of the TGF shows. They seemed really happy with what they were doing musically at the time, so it was fun talking shop with them.

I didn't run into any of them at the Strand Chris Shinn debut, but did meet Pat's mom. I also said hey to Chris and talked about Unified Theory <3. Then I got WASTED.

Following this band sure is a weird yet fun experience. I wish I cared about seeing them now but the recent concert footage and EP really don't do it for me.

I'm happy to hear this is on Spotify, but I find it odd that in 2019 a new release would not span all streaming services. I was exceedingly annoyed yesterday being forced to listen to the song in my car via a mobile web browser (which got cut off every time I opened another app on my phone or momentarily lost reception) versus Apple Music, to which I subscribe.

Agreed! And aside from that, I don't care about the exact details about what the mix could have been with some minor changes. I know that this is the version the band want us to hear and I'm totally oke with that, as I love the song and always loved it.

Wondering, anyone knows how the (demo) early version ended up on the internet in the first place?
I know the whole story with the Kevin Smith films, Mallrat having a few seconds of (the current?) early version and the road to 2008 or 2009 when it was used again but not released.

I got my download from a old Live (fan) website with all kind of unreleased tracks, long before Youtube. I couldn't believe my ears the first time I cam across gems like Don't Wait, Lifte me Up (instead of Hold me Up) and some others. I think We Deal in Dreams was titled Dealin' Dreams until 2004.

Anyone else hearing, “I lift you Up, we can love or fry” on this crystal clear copy? It’s only on the first time he sings it for me, and I’m trying to “unhear” it. Not complaining, just that I never heard it that way all these years listening on the crappy version. But maybe I’m just going nuts. tongue2.gif

Yes! Lol. That's exactly what I heard. I was like, has it really been "fry" all these years?

Thank goodness indeed smile.gif I still think the track was altered for the video, and that encoding doesn't play that big a role but the spotify version was definitely nice enough to enjoy

Well it's sourced from the TC demo tape. I can't remember when or where I got the track. Probably Live-Web or some early random Live site. There were so many back then. I would love to give credit to whoever leaked it.

I first listened to the song in 2000 and I was hooked. Keeping this song unreleased for 25 years is an example of musical, artistic and commercial stupidity. To me, Hold Me Up is the best Live song (along with Iris) and one of the best ever made in history. I thought that releasing the song or listening to a clearer version would do nothing to me after so many years but there you go, the same beautiful feelings accrued.

I hope the song gives Live some publicity, and maybe income, and inspires them for a kick ass new album.

Great honor to be here to celebrate this Masterpiece of this loved band!

Hope they will release the HD studio files so we can have the full of this reissue!

Here I got a flac from my tidal. The quality of this remaster seems good. Hope they do a great remaster job for the whole album and the Woodstock songs smile.gif

Edit
For me the original album master is pretty good already... But a remaster is mandatory on reissues.

And they did a very good remaster job on MJ!
