QUOTE(Existentialist @ Dec 3 2018, 12:34 am) *

The last time I saw Live play it was in March 2009 in a parking lot venue behind a bar that drew about 200 people in a city where they played the biggest venue in town and drew about 15,000 10 years earlier.

Last time prior to the breakup that I saw Live play was Westbury 2009, their final show together. Westbury is a small venue, holds a little under 3000. There was plenty of empty seats.

At Jones Beach this year, it was still relatively empty until the end of their setlist until the CC fans started to arrive.

I am 50/50 on the fake breakup idea. I can see it happening.

Ed: I want to go on a solo tour

Band: ok... lets fake a breakup so we can capitalize

Remember Chris mentioned these guys have the mental maturity of 17 year olds... so what would 17 year old you do if you were in this situation?

I can't believe they still have the 2nd drummer. They posted an Instagram clip of their show in Florida and the drums sounded like shit.

I saw a post on FB with someone asking, like, why still have a second drummer?

Chad Gracey replied something like because everyone likes it?

Huh?

Ps autocorrect made a "graveyard" out of Gracey

Well in 2006 they barley filled half of hob ac so i dont see how they got more people by 2009. Meanwhile in 2007 they had maybe half a bar filled in fort lauderdale. Its weak man. It was only going downhill and didnt compare to having two acts and festivals

Live sold out HOB Atlantic City in 2006.

Jones beach was full by the mid of Live’s Set, and many of those fans left by the end Counting Crows set. Blame the early start time on a weeknight. (730pm)

when I was there it looked like the place was half filled. I thought the performance was really weak too. I actually decided to leave before the show ended.

I was at that show. I went because rumors were swirling around that they were done, otherwise I wouldn't have made the effort.

Ironically, I was able to capitalize on their lack of popularity; I scored 2 second row tickets morning of. There was no way those should have been available mere hours before the show.

What a ridiculous conversation. Live would have made a whole lot more touring and recording as Live with Ed for 8 years, than they did doing side projects and then a comeback tour.

As it is they are nowhere now, completely out of the public eye.

Moronic.

Moronic is more like underestimating festival payouts and overestimating the public interest for a tour if they stayed together. Their act was beyond stale and Believe was their best new effort. Then there is also Chris' piggybank Live plundered

I don't believe the fake breakup conspiracy theory for a second.

Also, I was born in 1989 and very few of my contemporaries have ever head of Live. For one reason or another, their lure didn't extend past the 90s despite being a top act of 94/95. It's probably because all their big hits were on Throwing Copper*. By contrast, Everclear's biggest hits were spaced out from 95-00, and while Everclear was never as popular as Live during their respective peaks, everyone my age knows Everclear. I credit that to them being a band that was "around" longer and later.

*I'd argue that SS's success was entirely piggybacking off TC. Despite bing a top seller, not one of those songs could be heard on the radio by 2009. I love that album, but there isn't one song that you could say is a good radio hit the way Lightning Crashes, I Alone, Selling the Drama, or All Over You was.

Care to unpack that just a little? Physically doesn't have it anymore due to age/injury or lack of desire or what?

I would love to know how CG really feels about the second drummer.

Plexiglass sucks.

Lost the plexiglass but added another drummer.

Either he is hurt, doesn't care anymore or they just conceded to Ed and he calls all of the shots. It adds no value whatsoever at least from the clips I have heard.

If Live's pattern holds true we'll hear the truth or their story in another year or two...

He had a torn triceps tendon right?

It depends on the severity of the tear but I’d imagine that in his late 40s it’d be pretty hard to recover from that to the point that he could drum the same way he used to.
