It is puzzling why Be a giver, man and Brother are presented as of similar quality. Brother is a superb song compared to the other 3 songs on EP.

You see how people really wsnt to like the new ep. At least a song or two. At least the least horrible one.

And i can very well get what they are saying.

What are you talking about - "Child"?

I am talking about a song which is much better than the rest and is reminiscent of the TDTH era.

So some people here think that Brother is on par with Waterfall and Be a giver man. That's indeed very interesting.

Really good review. I read all ten paragraphs. Thought this bit in particular nailed it:

QUOTE(swami @ Oct 16 2018, 8:35 pm) *

"But they're loud and abrasive tracks that rock hard without letting up, and that's what Live fans have been calling for!"

No it isn't. Unlistenable posturing as a replacement for the feeble half-assedness of the mid-2000s Live is not a compromise we were willing to make. Nobody agreed to this.

Posturing - I couldn't have said it better. This reunion has been full of it. I got my brother to check out the EP yesterday, he's a fan of the band that turned off after SFBM. He also hit on this idea: "There's a brash energy to it, as if they've sat down and said 'okay, we need to rock and win people over' but it doesn't really translate into anything more than that. Average riffs, lack of decent melodies, bad lyrics. A shame."

I haven't really posted my thoughts yet but I can't really improve on that summary tbh. It's noise but without much real care or craft.

No reviews on the EP at Amazon. Anybody planning to upload one there? https://amzn.to/2NN33Zt

I just went back and listened to "Believe" for the first time in ages and I could definitely hear it on here if the much better "Honest Man" hadn't already been recorded. Anyone else hear that?

I'll say yes, mainly because that answers the same question I already asked a few pages ago. I don't see the difference between where they left off years ago and where they are now. I think Believe would have fit right in with this EP.

I think that Believe ranks among the best Live songs sonically.

If it only hadn't been for the perfect HM

I think 'Brother' might be their best track with Ed since 'Like I Do'.

Mind you, after Love Lounge I set my expectations for this EP so low that I'm still in the initial pleasantly-surprised-by-it zone...

The music hasn't hit me that deeply, but I absolutely adore the logo and artwork!

One week after it's release and I have not gone back to listen to a single track.

While on shuffle I actually scrambled to hit skip on my iPhone before Ed could utter the words "like a tiny baby...".

TC anniversary re-release can't get here soon enough.

The EP is utterly dreadful and embarassing. Does anyone think they have anything left in the tank for a full album release that is tolerable to the ears?

Venus In Furs is the only track I keep coming back to. I was ok with Love Lounge but I was hoping for better song writing, like their first four albums, than what we got. Still a fan though...

Depends on whose ears, I guess. I'm really enjoying the EP, and would be happy with a full-length, but I recognize I'm in the minority here.

I really enjoy the EP too, with the exception of Waterfall. I haven’t/can’t even listen to that one all the way through because of the aforementioned PTSD-thing.

But I DO absolutely understand everything that was written in that 10-paragraph review. I’m reading it, nodding my head, agreeing with it, “Yep, yep, YEP!”

I still really like the songs though, especially Giver. It makes no sense, right? shrug.gif
