I'm not getting offended by you or your post in any way. Don't worry. I said it feels like you try to. When a statement like that is made and followed by a laughing emoticon for no clear reason, it's only weird and maybe even childish.

And yeah, I already know you don't like it. And I already said that's absolutely fine. But why it's bad - and even wore then SFBM - in your opinion, still remains unanswered. Weird again. But you don't need to explain if you can't or don't want to. Let's not turn this in another Ed vs The Turn discussion.

On topic: in the chorus of Brother I hear a little angst in Ed's voice. Last time that happened is a long time ago, folks. V and SFBM seemed to lack that all, on BoP it happened at some very rare points. So yeah, 15 years in the making.

That angst in his voice is one reason I like Brother so much. As you said its been a long time. We got that from Martin and Shinn and, for me, that makes it hard to compare the new songs featuring ED favorably to the last two efforts we got from CCP. I am happy that Ed has found some sort of peace in his life, but I wish every now and then some one would just piss him off so we can hear it in his music lol.gif

Venus in Furs is pretty good! They should make a whole album around the deserty vibe that this song and brother give off. Really TDTHish.

I like Brother. But I don’t particularly care for the rest of it. Perhaps I am too familiar with the band, and maybe too much familiarity breeds contempt. I am open and aware of my own subjective and visceral reactions and I am trying to open to this and I want to like it. On most of this EP, I hear a predictable road map. Every lyric and every vocal note and melodic pattern, and the notes on which the vocals resolve, all hit all of the predictable marks. Not the ones we heard on the first three albums. The ones from BoP, SFBM and Ed’s solo albums that I grew to dislike more and more as Live’s pre-reunion period went on. I listened to Be a Giver, Man with someone in the car and the look of soured repulsion on his face when “Like a little tiny baby in the womb” kicked off the first lines of the song was priceless. Then I felt a sense of shame when he heard the lotus in the mud. Dirty Water, Lotus Flower was a very cool song but that was written in a lyric 7 years ago. And it also makes me think of “carps in the slime”.

We lived through hiatus, TGF, Chris Shinn, the unceremonious dismissal of Shinn, and the big reunion with a promise of old school collaboration and a return to the old Live. Upon that news, I had certain preconceived notions and expectations of how it could go best case scenario, and how it might go worst case scenario. 2 years after the reunion was formally recognized we get a 5 song EP, 21 minutes of music. 1 song is a cover. We austensibly have new band members. I guess I could go on and on. But I think where I am coming from is that my hopes and expectations for where this was going next after 2016 haven’t been met, and it is more like what I feared it would be than I wanted it to be. But I’m still here hanging on as a fan of these guys. I’m just in a different place than I used to be.

I also really like Brother, but I wish they could capture Ed's voice like they did in the 90s. I realize his actual voice is different, but there's also a production quality that seems to mute what he was left rather than accentuating it.

Overall, this is about what I would have expected. It will never be like it was. It used to be full albums of brilliance, and now it's like a box of 60 chocolates with about 3 or 4 really good ones to actually enjoy. I'll still enjoy them as much as I can, and I'll still buy this on Amazon in the next week to support their art.

I think EP has a song for every fan. The only thing I would like to see in the next batch is a slower tempo, ballad number.

Well, I think I can understand what they want to do with this EP. They want to sound like 2018. In rock, it looks like rock bands really have a hard time. The songs rock more than anything post V or close to. Ed's voice is quite good in some moment, but lacks of.something in others. I don't hate Waterfall, but there's no depth in it, and the lyrics clearly don't help with that.

Someone pointed REM reference for the cover. So true. Could have been on New adventures in hi-fi. Good cover, not groundbreaking.

When I listen to be a giver and Love lounge one after the other, it is fine. I think that Be a giver, man goes in too many directions at the same time, but the main riff is worth it. Brother is good going back in some oriental influences from V and earlier. Like it.

I like the addition of Zack Loy. I said earlier that it is a stament of humility from Chad T. to give room to a guy better than him on the guitar. It gives the possibility for solos and additions. Don't know how he was involved in the writing process. As for the other drummer, meh...

For the first time I don't feel the need to buy that EP. I was so happy to grab the Turn right away as it is such a good rock record. This EP is maybe too much of an attempt to sound 2018 while rocking and the result is ok at best.

Having had a chance to listen in better quality now, and hear all the new stuff, I think it's pretty OK, quite.

Love Lounge is still a mess.

Be a Giver Man has grown on me, it's good, but Ed is the weakest link.

I expected to hate Waterfall based on what I have read here, but I like it. I must confess I never listened to any of Ed's solo albums, not even a song, but it sounds like something off SFBM, an album that sucks badly compared to almost everything else they have done, but that which I still don't hate.

Brother, very good. Classic Live.

Venus in Furs, well whatever.

I enjoyed it. Glad they bothered now, but not blown away. They have held my attention to wait for another offering at least.

If you like Waterfall and can enjoy SFBM, you should definitely check out Ed's solo albums. In my opinion they are both better than SFBM as a whole (I still like SFBM, but I would listen to his solo stuff 20 to 1 against SFBM...). Just wanted to throw that out there as you would likely enjoy many of his solo songs too.

I guess the new Zak Loy and Friends EP is so so.

Waterfall seems to be just as good as the rest of the EP to me.

I like the chorus for Brother but the vocals on the verse don't seem anything special at all. Muffled, lacking melody.

At the least the Waterfall verse has some semblance of melody, even though it kind of sounds like a country song.

I hope CCP and Ed made a bet to see who could put out a better EP, and that CCP gets the writing credits for the next one.

Is Waterfalls available on youtube or elsewhere so that i can listen to it before i buy? The sample does not help much.
