I felt like TFATM was miles better than Alive, so it wouldn't be the first time Ed had improved. I'd like to see Peter Buck and Jerry Harrison in the room the next time they put something together because I think they were instrumental in putting out the best from Ed and CCP.

The Flood and the Mercy, I feel, brought back passionate music from Ed. If you take the time and listen to it, top-to-bottom, I think it's his best/complete work since The Distance to Here. Sure BoP had a few really cool moments and SFMB has a song or two that pops, but I could never get into to Alive and all of the preachy vibes to it (outside of the song Drive, which, well ... drove lol.gif). The Garden kind of woke him up in terms of his past style and then with a strong producer and the addition of Peter Buck from R.E.M. on several tracks (and a guest backup vocalist) The Flood goes to right heights. The crazy thing is that it's like a lost album, because at it's release point Ed was shifting over to focusing on his support of Throwing Copper, meaning a few songs from it were played here or there. I'm not even sure if 2/3 of it was ever touched in concert?!? It's definitely an LP that deserves attention. The One, Parasite, and Take Me Back are all classic sounding Ed K/Live-style rockers. And there's not really filler on there, either.

I’m often quite confused by statements like these. I mean, to each his own, but how can you say SFBM had some good songs ( I agree) and at the same time calling TGF or The Turn no good. You may not like it, it’s all oke, but how is is worse then SFBM. Please, explain, I want to understand.

Sometimes, especially with adding emo’s like “ lol.gif” it feels like it’s just to offend fans who like those 2 albums CCP made.

If you get offended by that then you have issues.
I just really didn't like those albums.

Musically i'm really digging the music on the new EP...
Lyrics are a problem though (and have been since V).
Is it lazyness or has Ed's world shrunk after he got his daughters.
He should pick up a book maybe watch some stuff on Netflix (like: Black Mirror). nervous.gif

I’m a massive live fan and always will be but I don’t know if I’m into this....
I also agree TFATM was good I often listen to it I love the cornerstone cover but I feel the lyrics here just aren’t as striking and the tone of Ed’s voice seems lacking. I’ll always buy any Live Ep to support my fav band and I still love their concerts I look forward to the next one!!

We waited for two years and they give us this. Seriously this is the five songs they decided to announce to the world that they're back? Two years?

Songs like Waterfall is one of the reasons why they broke up in the first place.

I like bits and pieces of Giver and Brother, but that's about it. I already deleted Love Lounge and Waterfall from my EP.

Time to sign off. If you like the new stuff cool. If you enjoy the same recycled 15 songs in concert cool. Enjoy it while you can.

I'm still hoping they release some older stuff from the archives because that's really the only thing left for me.

For what it is worth here's my in depth review of the EP:

1.Love Lounge.....uuuugh
2.Be a Giver, Man.....musically pretty good, in terms of lyrics and vocals....uuugh
3.Waterfall......seriously? Uuuugh x infinity
4.Brother....How the hell did we stumble upon such an awesome rock song after shooting that fear like a little tiny baby by a waterfall? I have my theories (thanks CCP!) but this is one heck of a song and a nice surprise.
5. Venus in Furs....weird choice but solid and respectable cover

My order of preference:

1. Giver
2. Brother
3. Love Lounge
4. VIF
5. Waterfall

Overall I’m pretty happy with the EP, except for Waterfall. It irks me to no end they actually put an Ed solo song on the EP. What, were they just trying to be nice to Ed? Because it absolutely sucks. All this time back together and all of those new written songs and they go with that?

I feel like we're listening to songs that belong on 5 different albums - but I mean it is Live. The production quality is lacking on many songs, and they stick out like a sore thumb.

Thoughts:

Love Lunch - I've always liked this song, except for the production/mixing and the 'Shoot That, Fear' part (If you haven't listened yet see if you like it better without it: Love Lounge No Shoot That). The production is decent, but the vocals could be better and the lyrics are meh.

Be a giver, man - The song is good, but the lyrics are terrible and the production/mixing is terrible. Rewrite the vocals please. ;P

Waterfall - So, I love Ed's solo work, and I like this song. But, it belongs on The Flood and the Mercy.

Brother - This is what I want from today's Live. Even the production is pretty good on this song. The only thing that bothers me a little is the 'Brother Brother' chant, however not as much as 'Shoot That, Fear!' in LL. Amazing song - Please let PD write your music and hire Jerry to produce the LP PLEASE.

Venus in Furs - Belongs on a cover album. Good song, good cover ... but put out a cover album.

Overall, it makes sense to combine these songs on an EP, but not on an LP. With 2 years we know they have many new songs written as well as an extensive back catalog of songs in the vault.

Live, please hire Jerry and put out an album with songs from your back catalog and songs like Brother. Heck, make a 2-disc set that includes a new album and a cover album. Just don't use Ed's solo work and avoid cheesy lyrics. smile.gif

I heard that Pat took the creative lead for one song. I’m thinking Brother is the one! guitar.gif

Brother is credited to Ed & Zak.

You know what would go good with that "Love Lunch"? 10,000 Cups to try and wash that taste out of my mouth. lol.gif

@promise lol.gif lol - 10,000 cups of dirty water eh?

I'm taking the good with the bad and hoping they go the right direction with an LP and get Jerry back for production!

And that they put Hold Me Up on the 25th TC release finally. smile.gif If they have the rights to the song back maybe even on the new LP - that'd make it a hit.

I agree. As much as I am disappointed with this album there are a couple of bright spots but nothing to get me too excited about their future. Here's to hoping for a kick-ass TC re-release.

I'm just disappointed Chad and Ed's favorites are Love Lounge and Giver. Brother seems to be the obvious best song of the bunch. Hoping they are reading the feedback and go more in that direction if there is an LP.

I'm not getting offended by you or your post in any way. Don't worry. I said it feels like you try to. When a statement like that is made and followed by a laughing emoticon for no clear reason, it's only weird and maybe even childish.

And yeah, I already know you don't like it. And I already said that's absolutely fine. But why it's bad - and even wore then SFBM - in your opinion, still remains unanswered. Weird again. But you don't need to explain if you can't or don't want to. Let's not turn this in another Ed vs The Turn discussion.

On topic: in the chorus of Brother I hear a little angst in Ed's voice. Last time that happened is a long time ago, folks. V and SFBM seemed to lack that all, on BoP it happened at some very rare points. So yeah, 15 years in the making.
