my beef is with the laziness of the band. As Fish said, 2 years and just an EP and no proper U.S. headlining tour is an issue.

No need to be sorry. Although I don’t agree with it, I can see your reasoning for why you’re taking a critical look. I just still think that the whole band should be held accountable for things and not just Ed.

Sure. For me it just so happens that across LL and BAGM it's Ed's contribution that sticks out as letting the side down. But if/when it's someone else I won't shy away from pointing it out.

Yeah, it's weird, isn't it? Pretty lacklustre for a cash grab reunion... whistle.gif

I like it much better than Live Lounge, but I’d much rather listen to The Record Company or Rival Sons or Slash than Live now.

Just want to say if some of.you haven't heard of The Record Company, definitely check out that band.

Also, it’s funny reading two or three times in this thread that some of you guys don’t like the “rock n roll” part of Giver. I laugh, because it’s my favorite part. I was the same way with “shoot that fear” lol.gif

Lol. It's straight out of 1987, I love it. Actually a lot of the verse vocal melody sounds like it could be from the 80s.

Listened to the song for a good part of the day, and I really love it now. It is like 3 songs in one, but they all flow together. Love the lyrics, dig the music, and really love the message.

The tour this past summer was one of my favorite tours ever. I hit 6 shows, and was able to bring my son to one due to the early start time. Stayed for Counting Crows in Atlantic City, and enjoyed them too.

They played to good sized crowds, played their butts off each night, and it was just a great experience. I never thought I would get to see Live perform in ampitheaters again, and this summer gave me the chance.

Bands team up on the circuit, especially during the summer. Live may headline next summer, in fact I think they will, but I would think other bands are coming along for the ride if they do.

For sure the whole band is accountable but in the last 20 years whatever music was made without Ed (TGF and The Turn) was light years better than that made with Ed. This should say a lot. I have now lost any hope that Live will ever make good rock music unless CCP move on without Ed. They can bring back TGF or start a new band; they do not have to carry on with the name Live. I feel stupid for raising my expectations up and believing that Live with Ed would make music as good as that off The Turn.

Of course, that's entirely correct and I've argued the point many times myself.

Yeah, I didn't do that. All the evidence pointed to exactly what seems to be happening. Musically CCP are more adventurous and let loose than the SFBM days, but Ed - whilst arguably reigning in his worst tendencies, and fair play - is still very much bereft of artistic inspiration. His well is dry. And the result is the BOP level output we're seeing. Better than nothing? For some, sure. But for those of us who were enamoured with the freshness and quality of The Turn, the likes of LL and BAGM represent a stark and disappointing regression.

To end on a positive note, I should say that I have hope for the cover song. It won't be Ed's lyrics for one thing, and Live do have a history of decent covers.

The guitars in this song and Love Lounge are good additions to the Live sound, but these lyrics are absolutely lackluster...I'm sure any of us could write better lyrics.

The entire song could have taken a darker turn with just swapping two words in the first two lines...

Like a little tiny lotus in the womb

Like a little tiny baby in the mud and in full bloom

I know, i just did not want to believe that Chad Taylor would tolerate such poor creativity and singing. It is time for me to move on. I will check this forum periodically in case a miracle happens.

I wonder if there will be a physical release. It appears to be digital only on Amazon.
