I vaguely remember a petition on the mvdblive site. It was a collection of outtakes and B-sides, or something, right?

The one where chad wrote back to us an essay about the bands history

Even better would be... release the damn thing already.

If the studio version doesn’t show up in 2019, I give up hope.

I think we need to start a petition, Chad T was really helpfull last time we all wrote a letter together lol.gif

I'm sure this is sarcasm, but can you tell me about the story behind the letter?

Haha, no sorry, not sarcasm. I meant the thing Wam wrote. Litterally helpfull as Chad really admired our effort and shared a lot of never heard details.

Very interesting read. A lot of explanation about unreleased songs, things going on in the band and the record company driving them mad. Chad also wrote that pre-V, Ed wrote some of his best work to date but it never made an album.

It was going to be part of a book about LIVE’s history. I guess quite a few things changed by now but still hoping for that book someday!

I spoke in detail with Chad T, recently. We discussed many things, including unreleased material that will hopefully be released one day.

When I say *hopefully*, you must understand that the band can NOT just release anything from their past that was recorded with any monies (advanced or outright) from the record company that funded those albums. In other words, the record company owns those recordings. A deal has to be made to release any of those recordings.

I'm sure many know of this, as it is very common within the entire music industry. I'm just repeating it for those who forget and want to lay blame on the band (or artist) for not releasing older material from previous albums.

Now then, those who still wish to cast their stones at the band...

Interesting for sure. Is there a price if the band decides to rerecord the good ones (ex: Hold me up)

I think this was further back in time than than that, around the discovery of Deeper and the "big bang" version of TSUFL maybe? I thought it was before V, but I don't really remember.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but my hope has been and remains that a similar process as with Mental Jewelry can be negotiated for the remaining pre-V works and their associated outtakes. This is especially true for the TDTH era.

I don't blame anyone. smile.gif

The letter was sent by FOL in summer 2010. What happened on MVBDLive?

If I remember correctly, there was a list of outtakes, submitted as a petition of sorts to the band. I think the idea initially may have been to request an outtakes record of some sort, but it seems like that didn't happen and the band was just given the list and a thank you letter or something along those lines. It was like 20 (edit: probably closer to 18, according to the wayback machine, the site was first archived in 2000ish) years ago, somebody find MvdB and ask him, lol.

The amount of audio material in that Chad T posting is just a small fraction of what is in their archives.

Adam Duritz of @CountingCrows and Ed Kowalczyk of @Freaks4Live tell us how they create the setlist for each night.

I was expecting Ed to say "we take a copy of last night's setlist and put today's date on it"

Maybe we should start playing "Guess the Setlist". Post your guess the morning of the show before noon EST. First one to post the correct set wins!
