Well,

The song is OK I guess. Different from what we had before. A Muse kind of bridge, an up-tempo song that doesn't go on repeat, but I can enjoy it for what it is.

I do not mind Loy and Diaz's presence. I mean, with all the years that passed, they can choose the dynamics that they want to create music. All good here. Loy is way better than CT, so it can add something good. Without him, no way they play The distance on that tour.

But everything written about the lazyness of this band is so true. Did you notice that the promised 16 songs set became a lazy 13 hitlist set? That they will headline Australia again before doing a US tour? ( yeah I know else than a couple of dates this summer)

It took 18 months to get 1 song, another 6 to get an EP. The confusing part of it is that Ed was productive during the breakup. CCP a bit less but still 2 albums in a 7 years span. Ed had 2 album plus EP. So yeah, they cash in. But not on me this summer. I pass.

So boys, get in a room for a whole week, rehearse, learn old songs ( the catalog is SO easy to play) and blow people's face. I mean, if I had that kind of catalogue, I would love to choose from the songs from all the albums. Why not Like I do?, Where fishes go? Transmit your love would be fun, no? Deep enough could be a real heavy song fun to play as well...ok, stop the ranting you get the point, right?

So to elaborate and also repeat things people have already said: it's just not very good, basically.

It's very generic, shallow and uninspired. On first listen it sounded to me like more of a rock song from an Ed solo album, so it came as no surprise to read that it's mostly an Ed and Zak composition with only minor input from CT. And the lyrics are rubbish; someone on Twitter said it's like they were written by an algorithm, which is funny cos it's true.

I do understand people enjoying this in terms of it being heavier than SFBM and with the fact the original four are back together on it... but then that sets the bar incredibly low, almost to the point of not even respecting yourself as a fan. Don't just accept anything they throw at you cos they're all friends again and ain't that lovely.

It's not about wanting it to sound like TC or SS or anything like that. It's just about wanting it to be good. And ideally feature Live's trademark spirit that roared back to life on The Turn, but y'know. Just good would do.

Also, have to say it, sorry not sorry: when you bury The Turn like they have done, then you're duty fucking bound to come back with something better. And they haven't, so lols and that.

I actually had a much more enthusiastic reaction to the snippet from the other new song we got a while back (As did most of you judging by the thread) That had a real nice pace and great riff which got me excited for the new material. Could it be yet another case of Live picking the wrong single like they have time and time AGAIN?

Cut your losses, release that other song as the single and even overlay the track over the love lounge video to save money, no one will even know!

I agree, that snippet of that song is 10 times better than Love Lounge.

As a very actively engaged Live fan for several decades, I am trying to wait out my original wave of thoughts and feelings about this song, the length and diversity of the set list, the touring and marketing and management, the participation of extra drummers and guitar players in the songwriting process, studio and onstage, the scarcity of new music after 18 months of time spent together, etc., until I can be more reflective on it. None of those issues are new. It’s the same thing, different year for a Live fan. But for now, I will say that it has indeed been quite a wild ride since The Distance To Here was released in 1999. It speaks to how profoundly life-altering and brilliant Mental Jewelry, Throwing Copper, Secret Samadhi and The Distance To Here were, that many of us have been hanging on with passion and hope for a resurgence of their songwriting and creativity that more closely resembles the first four albums that captivated so many. In these tribalistic times of “rooting for our team”, we are still here rooting for these good guys from York to win it all again, and we get passionate about it, and heart-broken when it’s not executed in the way our rooting interests would like to see it go. Still holding out hope.

Not to beat a dead horse, but this thread brought Adam Kowalczyk’s new band to my attention, and I emailed the address on social media and ordered their 3 song cd. I wasn’t so sure that I wanted to spend $10 to get a 3 song cd (and one of them is a cover), but I am really glad I did. It is so great. If anyone is longing for new new music that sounds like the genre and feel of classic Live, I highly recommend listening to The Band Alow and the cd is worth getting.

hmmmm........ this song makes me miss Chris Shinn even more. If you haven't yet, go back and listen to The Turn in full, its actually an incredible album.

To sum up my opinion on Love Lounge, it just doesn't seem like its an honest effort. It seems like they're trying to make a song to appeal to the mainstream. Bands have to make music for themselves, that's when they'll make great music.

I want LIVE to get angry again, they need some angst in their music, not a bunch of lovey dovey stuff.

Love Lounge is not really my thing, gave it a few listens over the past couple weeks and I just don't like it.

Just my opinion though.

Maybe the boys should watch their MTV Unplugged performance to get some inspiration.

AMEN !
Not a song I can play over and over. To tell you the truth, I hate the lyrics/melody! There are some other lazy parts, but overall, it reminds me of way back in the day when Ed came up with lyrics for the song 'Believe', which then became a much better song called 'Honest Man' with the TGF.

Exactly. Believe had a killer riff but also had Ed's cheesy lyrics and soft singing which totally brought it down. Honest Man, with the same music, became a great song with a change up of the lyrics and Kevin Martin's passionate rocking voice. As much as I loved Ed in the 90s that Ed does not exist anymore and Love Lounge (the title alone wasn't a good sign) proved my hesitation of Ed rejoining the band.
