tells me they dont have much confidnce in the new stuff. they played a lot off the turn at the show i went to.

they dont, but they played the turn cause they were trying to push a new lead singer, and chris couldn't remember Ed's lyrics

Me just now:

"Oh! A new Live song is out!"

"...with Ed? Uh... I missed something"

*goes to Spotify*

"WHERE THE FUCK IS THE TURN??"

"Oh, yeah, Ed probably wouldn't have been cool with that. Ok I guess... I mean whatever they want to do but still weird..."

*shrugs and clicks play on new song*

"THAT'S NOT CHAD TAYLOR GUITARING WHO IS THAT"

*closes Spotify and plays The Turn on phone while trying to figure out if Chad was also removed from the band*

This is more of a mindfuck than when SFBM came out.

I follow Everclear almost as closely as I follow Live. They're switching their setlist up every night and are incorporating Twitter fan suggestions. If they need to relearn a song, they do it on the bus. Also mind you, other than Art the lead singer, everyone else in the band is a replacement and they still learn songs they've never played before.

Chad G said they learned "I Am The Highway" on the plane to Columbus and, without rehearsing, played it for the first time at Rock on the Range. Robin said he learned Live's setlist for Arroyo Secco Weekend in an afternoon.

There is absolutely no reason professional musicians such as Live couldn't relearn their own songs in the course of a tour.

For those of you who heard 10,000 Cups, how does Love Lounge stack up?

I heard it live at the rehearsal and I think it is ten times better than Love Lounge. I thought it was more Live like in that it built up to a certain point and then the guys let it rip. It was also unique in that it had a bit of a raggae vibe to it in the beginning. I've been dying to hear it again and can't figure out why they took it out of the setlist other than the fact that they put the Chris Cornell song in. But why not take a different song out and keep it in? I guess they weren't happy with it but I loved it!

because they dont rehearse or at least they didnt used to. they hated each otherand they all had different schedules and would record separately their parts of songs and piece them together in studio

they arent going to bring out any gems and they sure arent going to make any extra effort for fans. never have unless you count hiliday gifts

they are going to stick to songs they can play in their sleep and go through the mmotions

They "hated each other"? "They" came to eventually foster a disdain for one person in particular for various reasons, but that is apparently water under the bridge.

I'm sorry to all the people who want to hear Photograph instead of Turn My Head or Meltdown instead of The Dolphin's Cry or Vine Street instead of whatever. But sadly most of the people who remember this band remember them for the hits, not the deep cuts. Live just doesn't have the deep fan base that a band like Pearl Jam has, where they can pull a deep C side cut out of the hat and have at least half of the damn arena singing along with it. Live has their core fans, but... and I'm sorry if this hurts indie ears... those fans don't pay the bills.

It sucks we don't get deeper cuts at shows, but at least they're not playing songs from SFBM. I mean, ffs... there's plenty to still be happy-ish about at this point.

They played The Turn because they were pushing a new ALBUM, along with a new lead singer. But they played plenty of older cuts on that tour too.

Also, Ed had plenty of instances of forgetting his own lyrics. So what? Shit happens. Lyrics are sung by imperfect creatures.

I bet Everclear won't ever play a set without tossing out songs like Santa Monica, Heartspeart, and Everything To Everyone though. Am I right?

Yeah. Of course, that was hearing it live. Who knows how that song will translate when they produce and record it. At the same time I bet Love Lounge will sound pretty great live. I actually wish I had heard it live first.

Everclear plays the hits for sure, but they rotate the other songs. All Live really needs to play is Lightning Crashes, I Alone, Selling the Drama, All Over You, and Dolphin's Cry. That's five must-plays. Their other songs that the average person MIGHT know are Lakini's Juice, Turn My Head, White Discussion, Heaven, Pain Lies on the Riverside, and Run to The Water. If they're hellbent on pushing Love Lounge, that's only six songs out of the thirteen they don't have leeway on.

Looking at the Boise setlist, they have two deep tracks: The Distance and Pillar of Davidson. They really should switch up those two songs every night. They're already forgoing Operation Spirit and Run to The Water. Every other song is from my might know list.

I strongly believe they're just as well off trying to win over a casual Live fan by throwing out a great song versus one the casual fan might vaguely remember, like Pain Lies on the Riverside.

Point is, yes, they had a lot of hits but I think they have more leeway then you give them credit for. All I ask for is 2 slots where the songs rotate with deeper cuts. If its the same setlist every night, then it'll be disappointing.

Also it's worth mentioning they chose to play 13 song sets supporting Counting Crows at large venues as opposed to playing 18 song sets for their true fans in smaller venues - which is baffling to me considering how they all took 2016 off and barely played in 2017 which leads me to believe they don't need the money.

So true, sooooo true!!!! Especially your last paragraph.

What?! Operation Spirit was swapped for The Distance?! Ugg. OS is one of my faves. Was so looking forward to hearing it in person. Hopefully they put it back in, but yep, this will probably be the exact setlist all summer long. sad.gif

Out of curiosity, has Live ever mixed up their set list while on a tour?
