I was hoping for something deeper and not so electronic sounding.

you're the second person to mention the song sounding electronic - what does that mean exactly

Hello again, fuckers. banana.gif

The song is OK, but not enough to get me to see them on tour.

The positives are that it's not embarrassing for me to share it with people and claim them as my former favorite band, it's relatively catchy, and there are a few moments of interesting stuff happening.

The negatives are that it's mostly super generic, the lyrics are terrible, and it's trying way too hard to be "cool," but maybe 15-20 years late to the party.

If this were any other band, I'd say "Decent song and worth a listen!" but this is Live, the same people who created some epic rock songs like TBD, Stage, Gas Hed, etc, and I say "Wow, how the mighty have fallen!" It's almost like MJ's basketball career: he was great with the Wizards, but only if you didn't know about his career with the Bulls.

See you again in a few years, fuckers! banana.gif

After a couple days the song has sort of wormed its way into my head. I still don't like the "shoot that fear" part and I never will, which will probably interfere with the possibility of my loving the song. But I can feel myself starting to like the song quite a bit more. It kinda reminds me of the stuff on Birds of Pray, only it's harder than any song on that album.

Also, CG should get all the credit in the world for giving the song all the punch it has. As always he is a true bad ass, as is PD.

One of these things is not like the other....

Okay........but really, though.....this CAN'T be the final mix! It's SO muddy and raw.....but not in the right way. It's far from my favourite Live song, but it's not my least favourite. BUT....it's so shittily produced. Honestly, listen to this back-to-back with The Dam At Otter Creek and you will see what I mean. Come on, boys. Polish this off, at least.

From the interview:

The song also features your two touring members, second guitarist (Zak Loy) and second drummer (Robin Diaz). What do you feel they add to the sound?

CHAD: "The first rule of rock n' roll is that there are no rules! Ed and I challenged each other to break away from the creative constraints that existed in our past. The central theme was, 'if we're not having fun, throw it away and start again.' To us this meant embracing our incredible history while also incorporating the sonic experience of our 2017 tour--which featured both Zak Loy and Robin Diaz. We found ourselves feeling completely free to experiment but at the core of each song is real rock n' roll energy. I know our fans are gonna flip to hear the band with this much energy and passion."

True but this is not the fist time this is happening. Try Iris, The Distance, and Gas Hed or The Dam, Face and Ghost, and All over you, or Pillar of Davidson, Natural Born Killers and Ghost etc etc The examples can be countless.

As I’ve said before, I like the song. I give it a 5 on a scale of 10. It sticks in my head and is fun to sing along with. Most importantly it ROCKS. I’ve never been a fan of Run to the Water or Simple Creed and I’m just so glad Love Lounge is not poppy like those songs. I see what Swami (and others) are pointing out here— I do agree, the lyrics are average to below average. Also, it is a fact that it seems unfinished. But as I’ve said earlier, I NEVER expected another Lakini’s Juice or Stage (or DAOC as given in example here). My question is, why were some of you expecting it to be on that level? I understand hoping. And I understand fully that LIVE is still very well capable of it. But they’re not going to deliver. Why? Because I’ve seen them as complacent and lacking fire since the reunion. They moved at a snail’s pace & it was really frustrating. When I’d bring it up for discussion here (taking forever to make new music, not headlining a tour in the U.S., same ole set list, etc), many did not agree that it was a problem. So I’m shocked now that there are surprised (key word, surprised) complaints about the song. I’ve grown to accept that they are just kind of going through the motions. Sad, but true. So, because I’ve learned that life is short, I will continue to enjoy this level 5, good /not great song & appreciate that Ed still sounds good and I get to see all 4 original members tour this summer for a 60 minute set. Because that’s all we’re getting!

That's cause they're saving tons of money having Chad self-produce it. Where's Jerry

There wouldn’t be many singers that sound so much better live than in a recording studio (although live always sound awesome live lol) but after watching pinkpop 2017 so many times that’s the case here i reckon. I’m sure they can tinker with it before the release of the EP 🤞

If you were out the door, you wouldn’t still be posting on a Live fan message board.

Wow ok good one. Literally didn’t get the next line about the door was still open but ok. You use the word “still” pretty liberally since I haven’t posted or followed Live in 18 months. Only knew this was a thing as a friend posted about it on Facebook. I always told myself I was cautious but I’d give whatever release they first had a listen. I mean, I could argue what is a real Live fan doing posting here praising this when they should be absolutely disgusted at the levels the band has plummeted to, but eh. You do you.

As for the production - yep, it’s an absolute mess and surely was designed to save money.
I can sort of understand if they wanted it to be truly “in house”, even though Jerry is as much tied to Live as anyone - maybe the timing didn’t work out. That’s cool. Maybe they wanted their comeback to truly be about the original 4 doing everything themselves grass roots style. If so, having Zak write is even more puzzling in that light. As is the disappointment of this being what they served up. But at least it’s given us an insight into what their work will be going forward. The small part of curiosity I had was answered smile.gif

Well... alrighty then. So Live is going to be a community project now?

The song is still growing on me a bit, but I can't deny the fact that the drums on the song aren't CG's and that CT was in the backseat in providing guitar to the song kinda deflates the balloon again a bit. Live has always been ECCP. That was the creative environment that generated the best work of the band's career. I think it's great that Loy and Diaz added to their sonic enjoyment and it's always good to challenge the creative process... but if the creative process is what lead to "shoot that... fear" then they need to keep challenging it.

Also, CG needs to be more prominent on whatever other songs they put out.

it kinda reminds me of a quicker, less rocky sound than the gracious few song "tredecim"

Doesn't have an organic sound like alot of their older stuff. Explaining why it sounds electronic is hard to do, but to me that's what i hear in the song, can't explain it easily.
