My guess is that in three years CCP will say that they don't like it either.

It would be even more disingenuous than last time if they do that again.

Overall, I like it. I don’t love it. The lyrics are not great. I dig the music, though.

Those of you expecting a return to what the band was 25-28 years ago were bound to be disappointed. It’s just common sense that the 20-something angst of the early records is not going to be duplicated by guys approaching 50 years old.

Tell it to jonathan davis.

Tell it to chris cornell.

Sometimes try speaking to eddie vedder.

Noone was expecting a return. But one can certainly hope for maturity and guts, huh?

Oh and btw say hello to Mark Tremonti when speaking about 20-50 years

Ed is so much better than that chorus though he can sing better as pinkpop showed....I’d love to hear it re-recorded with a vocal coach there or where he just got drunk and growled it out! Then that song could work but I feel like he’s trying to scream without an open pharynx or breathing correctly & it ruins his trademark voice.
But it’s just the beginning hopefully they get better with song 2!!

I don't think he is trying to scream. Screaming would not fit well in this song. To my ears, signing is very good for this type of song. The question whether people like such music or not.

I don't hear anything resembling screaming either. I wish the EP were out, because it really made me want more, lol.

Indeed. It is a good song; it is memorable and full of energy. I still don't like the "shoot that fear" part but i have learned to ignore it. The chorus is super.

Having listened to it a few times now, I will just copy and paste what I wrote on Facebook about it. It's not a shining review, so don't read on if you're phobic of less-than-favourable reviews:

My friend of 20 years, whom I've never met, Bob Givnin, told me that he had mixed feelings about this first single from the original line-up of Live in 12 years. I'm not as willing to accept it. It's not bad, but it's certainly not the one to open the revival of the band with. There's nothing special about this track. It's accessible, but not at all edgy or pushing any boundaries. Over all.....4/10. Do better. Its only redeeming quality is that it's not a soft bumfuck like the stuff from Songs From Black Mountain. So, there's some hope that other babies born of this set of parents might have some promise. But, it's very misguided. The "Shoot that! Fear!" part during what OUGHT to be an instrumental section is a major sore thumb.

Final note: The overall mix in the video seems particularly muddy and unfinished. Hopefully this is corrected for any official release. If this was cleaned up a bit in production it could save the song.

It’s awful. Live were morally dead to me 18 months ago, but I guess the small part of me held on privately hoping CCP were good enough to drag Ed up to their level. Sadly, he pulled them down to his. The song is boring, generic, and uninspired. This is what they chose as their comeback? It’s just a wall of noise, and not in a melt your face kind of way. The lyrics are absolutely dire. It just lacks...everything. Any kind of soul. It’s as if they wrote it on auto pilot as they realised “we are a band, bands make songs, ok, here’s a song I guess”. And it’s insane that after they make such a big deal about the original band back together that they write their comeback song with Zak while 2 of the original members have no song writing credits. What on earth is a non-original Live member doing half writing their original lineup comeback song? It’s no wonder it has Zak’s (read: Ed solo) stamp all over it rather than the music we got glimpses of with TGF and The Turn. The band already seem on lazy auto pilot.
Upsides? Well, it’s better than stuff on SFBM. Ed doesn’t use awful falsetto. That’s about it. I didn’t want them to “sound like they used to”. I’d be happy with something very different. It just had to be good. And this ain’t.

So I had my answer awhile back on Live morally. Now I have it creatively. No thanks. To those who love the song, good for you guys. I don’t understand it, but hope you enjoy it and the EP later in the year and get to go to some shows. For me, I was already out the door but now I can close it and that’s fine smile.gif

I was hoping for TGF/The Turn meets the flood and the mercy in terms of songwriting.

Wow, that song by Adam K’s new band The Band Alow is amazing! Lyrically and musically, it sounds like it could be a new Live song. “Pick your head up from your phone. While the lines you scroll are beautiful, your truth is worth its weight in gold.” Thank you for pointing me in the direction of Adam’s new music. I didn’t know it was out there.

I was thinking the same thing about the song. I was hoping for something deeper and not so electronic sounding.
