I think thats a fair perspective. Can't compare to those early songs or anything off TC/SS but a huge improvement to V and SFBM.

I'll give it a proper listen with headphones later tonight.

Maybe this single is a somewhere in the middle for the fans of early 90's Live fans and fans of Ed's Live and his solo work. Play it safe on the reintroduction.

I love that the song sounds current. They weren't trying to recreate their songs from the 90's, they went in a new, rocking direction. But they still sound like Live. I couldn't be more happy with the song.

I woke up more nervous than excited to hear the single, but in the end Live surprised the heck out of me. Ready for the tour!

I am in divided mind for the time being. When i see it as anew i tend to like it. However, when i think that this same band made Hold me up, Iris and Gas Hed (not to mention their hits) i want to run away. But then i think that this band made albums like V and SFBM and i smile.

I think that's just Live for you. Glad it's making some of us smile. music.gif

A suggestion to those that haven't heard it yet...Do Not Watch The Video. Those are some bad lyrics. I agree with the other person who said it my be more of a "It's not you, it's me" situation.

It just seems like they missed the mark again. For those that are saying this sounds like modern rock, might be missing some good shit coming out of alternative/rock nowadays, cause this doesn't sound anything like modern rock. Check out Nothing But Thieves, Awolnation, Bishop Briggs, Lovelytheband, etc.

Most of the 90's bands understand how to please their original fans by releasing new music that is just similar enough and honors what made them successful in the first place. See A Perfect Circle, Better Than Ezra, Vast, Gin Blossoms. Not saying I want Lightning Crashes 2, but something close wouldn't hurt. Shoot, even casual fans could hear similarities between The Dolphins Cry and I Alone, but that was okay, because it hit all the right checkmarks.

That RS article sure was a fluff piece. They must still have some friends over there from back in the day. Is Rolling Stone even relevent anymore?

Will still check out new music but not a good start, especially after the long layoff.

Adding to the previous commenter...sounds like Eddie K. and the Zak Loy band (produced by Chad Taylor).

I’ve listened a couple more times now and it’s growing on me. Lyrically it’s pretty generic but not bad for the first song.

I don’t expect them to sound the same as they did in the early days. We’ve all done a lot of living since then and that changes both the band and the listener.

I’ll pretty much always be excited to hear the boys play, no matter what direction they take.

I turned it up loud in my car and I walked away disappointed.

I get that it's not fair to compare it to old Live, so I will compare it to TGF and The Turn. It's trash compared to those albums. The music is neutered when they write with Ed. There is no guitar tone and no trademark bass.

My guess is that in three years CCP will say that they don't like it either.

Compromising their artistic integrity for the chance to do nostalgia tours with Ed to make some $$$. Sucks for poor little me, but good for them if they can still cash in.

Just give me the Gas Hed demo and I'll walk away a happy man.

Just some random thoughts:

Sounds like BOP 2.0, trying to be a little more "edgy". What the hell is "Shoot that... fear!"? Seems really out of place to me.

Is it just me, or does it sound like they are trying too hard?

Not even sure how this is "Grungy". Because it has distorted guitars? There is also no groove or atmosphere to this song. Wonder if the album version will be a little longer. By the time you get into the song its basically over. Live's trademark sound is their dynamic from verse -> pre-chorus -> chorus. This just seems like they cranked it to 11 for the entire song.

Im getting flashbacks of "Purifier". Wonder if this song is even new or just some outtake/unreleased song that we never knew about.

"Once upon a time in Deja Vu Rannn" lol.gif

The second verse vocal intro is terrible.

Guitar fill at the end of the second verse thumbsup.gif

Do you mean you don't mind Chad G and Pat for example playing on this song at all? (just adking). You don't hear there signature in Love Lounge? Just curious how people experience this music.

Forever could have been played by other musicians ...maybe, but this song - to me - sounds like a LIVE product.

Making this new, collective LIVE music sound like TGF or The Turn, would be too easy, in my opinion.

It's quite quite 'electronic' sounding, more than any other record.

I am undecided if i like the song or not. However, reflecting on this as a Live song:

I would not recognise this as Live if i did not know that it was a Live song. I would not even recognise Ed signing.

That’s ridiculous. Anyone who is a fan of the band would know that’s Ed.

So I listened to it twice this morning. While in the shower I tried recalling the song but all I kept singing was 'rise' by Ed. So yeh, it's got that ed solo funky vibe going and that's not a bad thing, but it's also not really a Live thing. It's good for what it is. I just always associate Live with some pretty emotionally deep stuff and this song, while groovy and something I could totally jam to, is not something that is going to make me pull my car over to the side of the road because I just heard something epic.

Maybe there will be something more like that on the EP, but anyway good to see them still at it!

The best part of the song is the QOTSA-esque bridge.
