Have we confirmed that Counting Crows is the other band? Without trying to insinuate anything, I'm mostly just grateful they're back together and touring too. I hope we get new music soon, though. I'm really ready for a new Live album.

Until we have a formal announcement I am going to keep hoping the Counting Crows rumor is unfounded. Like a few others here have also indicated, I would rather see Live headline alone at a small venue than coheadline with someone else I have no interest in seeing. But at this point any news would be welcome just to see what they are planning.

I think Stone Temple Pilots handed their most recent return correctly. They announced a new singer, performed the next day with a new song, and released a new album a few months later. Live could have done that. "Not only is Ed back, but here's new music!"

Yes, play smaller venues. It's like they don't want to gain the public positive attention. They want to get the main stage right away. They'll get it, but with a shorter set...

but playing the main stage with a short setlist with the hits is probably their best route to getting the most widespread positive attention. Sucks for us.

And sorry, Live's spent a lot of the last year and first three months of this year sitting on their hands. It's not just my expectation as a hardcore fan (Bremang). I can compare Live to other bands (I can list them) who capitalize on their situations and/or status.

I hate festivals. And amphitheaters. Hope to see Live in an intimate venue in this lifetime.

It must be tough being a newer fan. A lot of the older fans here have been lucky and already had plenty of great concert experiences in the 90's and 2000's. It is definitely too bad if Live either can't be or doesn't want to be what we prefer.

I think Stone Temple Pilots handed their most recent return correctly. They announced a new singer, performed the next day with a new song, and released a new album a few months later. Live could have done that. "Not only is Ed back, but here's new music!"

The reissue was cool but it could have been over the top had they reissued it with one, two, or three new songs added on. I can think of another band that reunited in a successful way doing that with a greatest hits album. They put out videos for the songs too and went on a full scale headlining tour afterwards. It was awesome.

The other day I even stopped to think about when Scotty passed. “Was it right before Live did the NYE show in York (what?!?) or the December before? It was December ‘15, but still. Very good pacing. I’m happy for their fans and wish STP all the best.

Having been a fan since Mental Jewelry, and also afforded the opportunity of working with Live in multiple capacities within the last 10 or so years, I remain confident and supportive of their management and plans -- short-term and long-term. One doesn't have to be in the music business to form opinions on how they believe their favorite band should conduct their business, but it does help with forming an educated opinion vs. fantasy opinion.

STP had to wait long enough to pay respects to Scott and Chester. What they did brilliantly though was answer the question of "Can Jeff create new music?" by presenting new music and letting it speak for itself. When Ed returned, a lot of people in the Shinn camp said "Will Live with Ed yield another SFBM or another TC?" Almost a year and a half later we still don't have an answer. If Live performed a new song at the reunion show and it kicked ass, then people like Pokey might still be around.

For the record, I was skeptical of STP continuing with a singer from The X Factor. However, Meadow by STP is a great song. If STP played festivals with Jeff for a year and only played Scott's stuff I would have been really put off. But they let the new music speak for itself and I support their decision to continue the band. I think nothing would have generated more excitement from the diehard Live fans than a new, good song. CCP made the same mistake in 2013. They played Summerland and only did classic Live songs, which I found off-putting. Once they released The Turn I was more supportive of Live 2.0.

On another note, doing festivals and standalone shows isn't mutually exclusive. They could have done Lollapalooza in Chicago then done small shows in other midwestern cities around it. I think it was a great move to do festivals, but only festival didn't make sense to me.
