Yeah, I'll tweak the new Hold Me Up and Susquehanna files tonight. I think I can definitely give them both a little more punch. Wish I had lossless copies to work with.

Any luck with the re-master ThrowgnCpr? happy.gif

Notice the difference in the production of the drum
https://soundcloud.com/freaks-talking/hold-me-up
I feel bad for Jerry Harrison, who after tirelessly adjusting the space, reverb, and levels on the final mix, doesn't even get recognized by some of Live's biggest fans. Some can't tell the difference between his masterful production and the early demo...

who claim these careful edits must have been created by a "tape transfer"....

I'm sure no one was really consciously thinking about insulting Jerry Harrison bro, lmao. The Hold Me Up tracks we have are so similar that the small differences are kinda hard to tell. I'll give it to ya, there are differences but very, very small.

The point though is that it doesn't sound like the differences are accounted for by a tape transfer. It sounds like a difference in production.

I made quite a bit of progress with the tracks. The last month has been busy with work, but I'll try to finish them this weekend. throwing_cheetahs did a good job at hiss removal, but I've been trying to coax some more dynamics out of the track

I really didn't want to mess with anything else other than the hiss, as they sound really good as is in my opinion.

hey you guys are hilarious with all the attempts at redoing Spew.

Some of them sound good, but why don't you wait and let the experts remaster and release it thumbsup.gif

good day.

Just when discussions are going well again, someone reminds me why I hate this forum sometimes...

Yes, let's just sit around and wait for them to release a properly mastered version of this song. It's only been 20 years. Why are we being so impatient?!?!

nah. Here's my go: http://bit.ly/2rIfVoq

I think I may back off the noise reduction a bit, since it tends to make Chad's cymbal intro a little watery, but otherwise, I think this sounds pretty decent. Until you know, that official release comes...

First, that "early demo" had terrible MP3 compression. MP3 algorithms in the 90s were terrible, and when low bitrates were used, they destroyed a lot of the high-end stuff.

Second, Jerry Harrison produced the album, he didn't engineer (that was Lou Giordano), mix (that was Tom Lord-Alge) or even master (that was Ted Jensen) it. Jerry's role was essentially that of a director and coach. It's still a very important role, but he had little effect on the quality and tone of the snare drum sound...
