Just their touring guitarist. LIVE played with an additional guitarist since 2008, nothing new. Adam Kowalczyk was with them until 2009. Zak played with Ed solo as well I think.

Actually, Adam Kowalczyk toured with Live from 1999 - 2009. When Ed went solo and got a new band Adam was also part of that. Though at some point Adam was replaced in the band with Zak Loy and then Zak became Ed's +1 on his solo acoustic tour as well.

From what I understand Zak is more than a touring guitarist for Live. He has also been involved in the recording process with Live in their PA recording studio.

I really like him and he a great guitarist. He seems like he really wants to help live bring back the magic.

I'm kind of bummed there is a touring/recording guitarist with them. I think Live was strongest when Ed was pulling his weight in performances (i.e., playing guitar), and IMO the extra musicians detracted from their shows. ML and TC was pretty much just the 4 boys. SS had some strings, but after that they added extra guitarists and a keyboardist. I despise everything with Michael Railton. I hope they don't fall into the same traps.

Live did seem to perform great with just the four, and I thought Chris Thorne was a good addon for the summer 1998 shows. I was not a fan of Zak early on because he couldnt do the lakinis juice riff like chad

Exactly, he doesn't play the riff of White, discussion like it should too, I would prefer only the 4 of them and Ed on guitar too. It's not like Live's catalog is hard to play.

I've asked Zak last weekend personally and he said he "might be" on the new recordings, but he was not involved directly for now.

Ok, interesting! I think their haven't been additional guitarists on record before, are there? Or did Adam contribute to V maybe? Should check the cd booklets.

Anyway, the fact Ed recently said CT is in charge of producing the new album and that 'he is doing an excellent job', sounds so good from Ed's mouth!

I don't see Ed playing the songs any better than Zak is. I'd rather have a rhythm guitarist so Ed can focus on nailing the vocals (which he's doing).

Both Adam and Christopher Thorn played on TDTH, and Adam did indeed play on V.

Honestly it's pretty disappointing that Jerry Harrison isn't producing. I think he's the secret weapon behind The Turn and TGF. Hopefully he'll be brought in later when the material is all written.

Yeah I think Ed said something along those lines, bringing in someone else later. Which opens to door for Jerry, which would be awesome. The fout of them + Harrison, together for the first time in like 20 years. Imagine that!
