QUOTE(dangum @ May 18 2017, 5:25 am) *

Sad news. Chris Cornell has died. Soundgarden was due to headline Friday's ROTR.

Wow, that's some sad news, RIP. So, i guess Live will be the headliner tomorrow (Friday). They should do a Soundgarden cover, again, terrible news about Chris.

question is, can chad play black hole sun by tomorrow. Otherwise maybe sing the black hole sun chorus during the i alone bridge. At least going to dedicate lightning crashes to chris

must be a huge bummer to all the soundgarden fans going to rotr. might be alot of pressure on Live now.

Here is Ed playing a few seconds of Spoonman by Soundgarden during a concert in Orlando in 1994.

Does this mean a longer setlist for Live? I hope so, but for it to happen under these circumstances does suck.

It would be nice if they covered a Soundgarden song as a tribute.

If the past few tours are any indication, Live stick to their set and don't change. The more I think about it, the more I think Ed and Live as a headliner would be grossly insufficient to make up for Chris' death.

I think alot depends on what Rock on the Range decides to do. Will they bring in a new act? Maybe temple of the dog/Eddie Vedder/Audioslave could do a tribute. Or maybe they will have a superset at the end with various headliners covering Soundgarden.

Didn't Ed mention he was excited to see Chris or Soundgarden finally for the first time, or was it another band and festival? Not sure.

Also, didn't Ed cover some lines of Like a stone in I Alone, once? Again, not sure.

He paid respect to Chris a few hours ago on Facebook, that's one thing I'm sure about.

Ed used to mix Like a Stone into the bridge of I Alone pretty regularly. I used to live that. I would bet they at least do that.

Live used to play Audioslave on the PA system before they took the stage before many shows in the early 2000's. I loved Audioslave and that made me love them more.

Kowalczyk says that he only had about a dozen voice lessons from an aunt before choir singing as a kid. He still uses those same warm-up exercises and they do the trick. Although he admits that he and all of his peers could've learned from earlier artists about writing more in a register they could keep singing in later on in life.

"I was actually backstage at a Chris Cornell show in L.A. and he and I both were talking about that. He was asking why he hadn't written songs like Black Hole Sun a few keys lower because he's so known for being that kind of singer that when he has a bit of a cold or just travel lag it would be a lot easier. Of course, he still hits all the right notes impressively."

QUOTE

Several '90s frontmen are doing the solo thing lately, including Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam, to name a few.

Yeah, I saw Chris' songbook tour last year in Los Angeles and loved it. There comes a cycle where it makes sense and the fan base is ready for that kind of experience in the life of a songwriter. You mentioned all of those artists and myself in there, and with all of us, we have so many songs that people identify with and know, and to be able to experience those in such a stripped-down, intimate way after 10 or 15 years seems like the thing to do. People are ready to sit down in a theater and really soak that in. There seems to be space for it at some point in a career, and my fans love it.
