QUOTE(Merica @ Apr 28 2017, 6:52 pm) *

How did you get it?

Where did you get it?

Deets required!

Ok, here's how I found it.

As usual I do my regular daily searches on YouTube and came across some newly uploaded Live videos (#1, #2, #3). I noticed they had all been uploaded by the same account (MediaFiveEntertainmentArchive) so I had a look if they had any other Live related videos on YouTube. Nothing else there. The name sounded familiar so I Googled them and found they were a company that were involved with PA bands over the last 40 or so years.

I did a quick search on their site and found Live's profile.
http://mediafiveent.com/archive/viewprofile.php?id=175

On that page was a media player and track #4 was "Hold Me Up"

IPB Image

To say I was stunned when I hit play and Hold Me Up started playing was an understatement.

I then downloaded the track (direct rip) and then started hunting around the site for more stuff.

I found a nice collection of photos as well as some other audio tracks (including a studio version of Susquehanna)

http://www.mediafiveent.com/archive/artist...sarchive/audio/

According to the dates on the files they were uploaded to the server in 2013 but they were clearly recorded much earlier than that date.

Holy shit the fun continues way more!

First - Dan, you are the man.

But don't you see what you have uncovered?

First, these tracks are all tape sourced. You can hear tape hiss, whereas the 2000 era live archive has clear non tape studio versions of Vine Street and Sun Loop Version, as well as the friendsoflive gift version of imagine and they stood up for Love.

Second, they are incorrectly labeled on Media Five website. You can see track 14 is missing on the site. Meanwhile, the metadata shows a DIFFERENT track list order!

IPB Image

If that is not enough. Listen to Horse. It's got talking in the beginning!

All things considered, the fact that it is all tape sourced, with a metadata tracklist, with what sounds like finished studio versions of Throwing Copper (minus the slight difference in Horse), including what we now know is the finished studio version of We Deal in Dreams, this leads me to believe that Dan has uncovered tape sourced FINAL STUDIO VERSIONS of Hold Me Up and Susquehanna!!!

And it's been sitting on the internet out in the open since 2013?!

Amazing

Oh my God...

Dan thank you so much for finding this and sharing it! Hold Me Up is one of my favorite Live songs ever despite never hearing a real clear version.

What's odd about this is I also hear the more modern version of Ed so it's not just you Wam. Is it with 100% certainty this is an old recording?

It makes no sense for it to be a new recording imo. The site it comes from, the slight difference in Horse on the site, the apparent tape hiss etc. This is legit TC era stuff. A tape sourced, pre-release alternative version of Throwing Copper before they decided to ditch Hold Me Up and Sasquehanna, reorder the tracks and chop off the talking in Horse.

Also, the missing track is The Dam at Otter Creek, right? Peculiar, considering it's present in the demo tape of TC that we already have, and CT's stories of the song...

Exactly the thing I thought when I heard it for the first time yesterday.

Then again, I thought the same thing when I first heard the decent version of WDID back in 2004

The slowness threw me. The more I listen I doubt myself. Bremang has a solid point, and the fact it has (apparently) been up for some time. But there's just something about it...

Anyway, this is a great day for fans

Does anyone want to take a crack at the lyrics?
25 seconds in - Your metaphors, your silent _______?
Sounds different from the end of the song "your silent _____"
Also the end of the song, a fall from grace would do us ________ today?

I'm hearing 'hopes' at the start and 'horror' at the end. Can't even make a guess at the last one.
