Actually i'm not. i come from a long line of warriors and have been continuing that tradition for the last 18 years. i have spilled blood in the name of justice and freedom on a couple of occassions, and i have lost too many comrades over the years. anyway, i am privy to some things but certainly not anywhere near all of them. i wish they would leave us alone as much as anyone, but have seen too much of the sad truth firsthand, as actually we all saw on 9/11.

sorry to sound so political, but so many fine young men and women have died in the name of justice and freedom, i sometimes tend to get on a soapbox. thank God for these brave men and women, not just from the US but all over the world those who stand up in defense of what is right and good.

thank you! i am the first to admit the war sucks on so many levels but i will forever support the men, women and their families, not only Americans, who have sacrificed what we hold dear so we have the freedom to post, say, believe what we want.

Aid has been given to some of these countries, but alas, i certainly don't make foreign policy. my point is the brave men and women who freely serve justice are warriors, and too frequently unappreciated.

as far as the woman and child, it is truely unfortunate that any innocents lose their lives, but unfortunately in war oftentimes a few of the innocent die in order to protect the majority. Al-Zarqawi would certainly not have blinked twice to murder thousands or even millions of innocent women and children. AND, the cowardly such as him, certainly do not think twice to use the innocent, such as his wife, as a shield of protection. his kind place absolutely no value on women whatsoever. war is a dirty business, but it is not going away anytime soon. i think any sane person agrees that we wish armies and police were not needed and the innocent were always safe, but history teaches us this is not the case.

good thread, good insights here, politics will always differ, but that is healthy (except for the extremest nut-jobs like we are at war with)

If you care to do a quick search, I believe you'll find there are or at the very least have been in recent times US peace keeping forces in each of the countries you mentioned. Even the huge USA army can't be everywhere at once and it's all about looking after your own interests. The countries you mentioned weren't threatening the USA's interests directly like the situation in the Middle East, so the situation there is totally different.

As for 'right and good' that's always relative to who you are and who's side you're on at the time! Me - oh, I think I'll go with the USA as I've far less chance of getting tortured, mutilated and murdered by my own side if I speak out against or satirise it. Fair enough, I might get on a bus or go to a pub and get blown to bits by an angry young English muslim guy, but we lived with that threat from the IRA doing the same thing for decades so I'm a bit blase about it.

See, when we anti Iraq war supporters protest the war and everything, we are not hating on the brave men and women for the US and allied countries. We are protesting against the policies and planning and false info we were given that got them there. We love America, love its freedoms and oppurtunities. And we will always support the troops, that's a given. Its just so fucking sad to see so many people dieing ( iraq civillians too ) baised on what turned out to be false information.
After so many diff reasons, now the lastest is we went to war to free the Iraqi people and spread democracy. Ok, so how come its not being done in countries that dont have as much oil.

And yeah, I support the Afgan war, I think most Americans do but where the heck is Osama. I've seen his distruction first hand here in NYC. And its so funny , everytime the current Admin drops in the poll we are put on higher Terror alert. Then they screwed up our ports, they cut out terror fund almost by half, while increasing other states like Nebraska by the same amount. Now, they just cut our bioterroism fund too. NYC was the only state hit twice, one early nineties, and 2001. C'mon now there's no question, we are a target.

It is really fuckin scary travelling underground in the subway for a 45 to an hour ride wondering if youre gonna make it to work alive. I work next to ground zeo, right next to the shiny new WT building that was just built. I am scared shitless but hey, you gotta live and trust in God and if its your time, it just your freaking time.
