I just checked out the average setlist length of some of Live's contemporaries in 2016/2017

Green Day - 29 tracks
Pearl Jam - 32 tracks
Radiohead - 23 tracks
Foo Fighters - 26 tracks

Bush, Collective Soul, Goo Goo Dolls, Everclear all perform 90 minute sets typically.

Sorry but do you want Live to have some balls and perform like one of the big boys or do you want them to mail it in like a third tier 90's act? Bands like Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters do it right. Live has a huge catalog of known songs to draw from, plus whatever else they can come up with or want to play on any given night.

Acts like Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi play fluid setlist that vary every night. Bruce plays 2 1/2 to 3 hour shows night in and night out. Dude is almost 70!

I've been to a Live show where the crowd adamantly wanted Heropsychodreamer to the point where Ed had to address the crowd by saying they hadn't rehearsed it so they couldn't play it. How embarrassing, that's your fucking song!

I want to see a rock show! Not a canned product that neatly wraps up in an hour and a half. Everything they have ever done should be on the table every night.

Dangum, i've uploaded the live recording of Photograph, i didn't feel like searching for it on FOL. I'm pretty sure you've probably heard it before.

Photograph (Live)

Also uploaded the Mallrat live version, i think they are from the same show.

Mallrat (Live)

I would be very disappointed if any headlining band played a measly 16 songs.

I'm all for 20-plus song set lists that make you feel you got your money's worth. In my experience, it's uncommon. The last three concerts I've been to had 18, 17, and 16 songs.

Live at age 20, rarely if ever went over 20 songs in concert. Live at mid to late 40's, I don't see going over 20 songs on a regular basis, nor is it something as a fan I would want.

And bands like Pearl Jam and Green Day only tour once every 3-5 years, and I still would hate to see them on stage for 2-3 hours at a time. 4 hours of Bruce, sounds like some level of hell I couldn't even imagine.

I'm a fan of shorter shows, always have been.

Plus the bands you mentioned rarely perform at general admission standing venues, which Live will more than likely have to perform at. Live's fan base is mid-30 to mid-60 at this point. Standing 2.5 hours in a club, no thanks.

First of all, I hope they don't have a permanently fixed set list. It should always have the key hits but I hope they mix up the fill from night to night.

Realistically most bands have a set list that's pretty much set in stone. They usually only change up a song or two a night. I've done the "Texas-trifecta" and followed bands for shows in Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and heck, I've even seen the same canned speeches to the audience. I've also seen the same simple things like where the bass and guitar player stand during a song or how they interact with each other during certain songs.

Anyway, I thought this was cool of Mötley Crüe one year... they would ask fans on Facebook the day before, "What song do you want to see us do tomorrow night in your city?" and that's what they would switch up. It would be cool if Live would do that.

The Stones do that, one song variance with requests and fan input. On the other hand you get artists like Tori Amos, who, even with a touring band, rarely if ever play anything resembling the same set list twice in a tour - maybe having three or four songs that always get played, and changing up the other 12-15 nightly.

Live at age 20 didn't have enough material to draw on to play 20 songs in concert. Live at mid 40's certainly do. I can't fathom why anyone would prefer to attend shorter shows. As long as the band can maintain intensity for longer shows, who wouldn't want to see more Live? guitar.gif

I think it's pretty standard for a band to have at least 18 songs in a setlist. If they play less, it's because they cut some songs for time constraints.

You're think the fans at a Boss show are sitting? They ain't spring chickens either.

You guys are starting to sound like the "I have to be in bed by 8:30" and "the neighbors don't bring in their trash can crowd."

Maybe Live should tour community centers and have a bingo/brunch tour.

If ya'll can't handle a 2 1/2 hour show you can leave early to beat the traffic!

To everyone saying "most bands today have short shows" I'd say most bands today suck!

If time is a problem ditch the opening acts. Then you've got plenty of time.

Don't want to see some band I've never heard of fill time before the show. I want to see the show.

"With Live it's game seven every single night", or maybe they should just open for a band that brings it like Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam or Green Day.

No bands of today for me. Dude, I've been listening to the same music for 30 years. The last three shows I mentioned seeing were: Crüe-18 songs, The Cult (solo)-17, and Tesla (solo)-16.
Because I'm curious, I just looked up Aerosmith (who I'd love to see again!) They play 18 songs. Sammy Hagar who I'm hoping comes around soon, plays 15-19. Kiss (who suck) play the standard 18 too.

Believe me, I love longer sets. They are just rare. When I saw AC/DC they played like 25 songs. Crüe in 2005/Carnival of Sins was 24. Personally, those are the two best concerts I've ever been to. If Live wants to do it like that, then bring it. I'd be one happy camper. I just don't see them playing that many. Time will tell.

Ed's been playing 18 song sets just fine since the break up. And yes, that includes electric sets.
