Ed is the right singer for Live.
Live's lack of quality after TDTH was not his fault alone. All four are equally responsible, so as they are now.

The quality of the music may drop if you're picking a singer for the money.

Or it may be the best thing to happen. We can speculate back and forth. It's how you choose to look at it, especially when there is nothing produced as of yet.

So, do you think the quality of music is going to drop?

The Gorillaz just announced their own festival, "Demon Dayz", named after their 2nd record & it will be the first time they've played together since 2011. Full festival line up to be announced. They are releasing a new album later in the year.

I wish Live would have thought of that. "Throwing Copper Festival" would have been epic.

This thread should've been "What not to expect from Live."
Sigh
I'm jealous, Gorillaz fans.

Well Gorillaz are essentially a supergroup composed of members of several other bands over the years. I wonder if they will just extrapolate and have all the contributors do their own set. I suppose if Live tried this, you might get Chris Thorn, little brothers kowalczyk and taylor, zoe labelle, nineh cherry, Railo, Shelby Lynn, the Chris Shinn project, and Candlebox. But also you you have the prolific Jamie Hewlett at the helm with all the cutting edge interactive visual artistry for gorillaz, and you get a film projector for the Ed K TC show.

I'll pass on your extrapolated Live fest lineup. lol.gif Really though, I'm over festivals. Give me a mid size venue any day of the week. I just had to give the Gorillaz some credit. What they are doing is a cool idea and Live could pull it off, especially out East.

Live with Alanis Morissette opening in a midsize is my dream show. I'd could die happy.

I'd love to go see them at Pinkpop, but the likelihood of me affording that is not very high. I am really looking forward to a US tour though. I can't wait to see them and maybe meet up with other FOL folks. A full set in a midsized venue with a new song or two (or three) would make my year.

I was behind, then in front of, an Altima with a pink Live window sticker in East Lansing yesterday. It made me happy and I tried to wave but they weren't looking, lol.

I don't think you're alone in this opinion. Many live fans are in their 30s and 40s now and we don't typically spend our time going to festivals! A nice concert with an opening band and a good long setlist would make all of us happy. I'm not going to be able to go to any of these big east coast festivals and it bums me out. I try to generate hype with my friends, but if they dont' come to the west coast, what's a live fan to do? shrug.gif

Yes, the wait continues. I've never been to a Live show because finances or life got in the way. I was always waiting for next time. Then, they break up with Ed. I'll just wait until they get back together now, I tell myself (I knew they would tongue.gif ). But damn, that was a looong wait. Then, the wait for them to just go ahead and tell us already that they were back together. That wait was literally painful. Now I've accepted the fact that I probably will not see them on tour until 2018. So, the wait continues. Hurry up and wait. I hope this band loves me as much as I love waiting on them. tongue2.gif

I feel you. I have never met a serious, die-hard Live fan in person. Most people usually ask, "Live? Who's that?" Then when I mention Lightning Crashes, that will ring a bell. A few other people I've talked to have or had Throwing Copper, so they attest to them being a good band with that "one" good album & that's as far as it goes. I would've done the same thing as you with the pink Live sticker, trying to wave all crazy. We are the definition of a cult following.

Telling you, got a feeling they will be local at Arts, Beats and Eats this year. They've played it before.

Maybe this is a bump back on topic...

I re-watched some tracks from Paradiso recently and it struck me hard and Cold to notice how choppy the editing was of that DVD - in fact the quick cuts alone made it almost unpleasant to watch...but worse I noticed for the first time how all of the edits and footage seemed designed to place Ed at the front and centre of everything.

Don't take this the wrong way; I'm not trying to start a war. Re-watch it for yourself and u will notice too that it's 90% Ed and few steady long band shots - ive been to liVe concerts and Ed shows and I KNOW they are a good enough band to nail DVD quality takes of songs without them having to be chopped up and edited into a whole.

So it got me thinking as to why this was the case...I looked at the cover and remembered CT complaints about ed being only one in colour and it dawned on me...it was choppily edited and poorly framed intentionally to keep Ed at the front - it was Ed Kowalczyk Live at the Paradiso with LiVe.

Not at all LIVE at the Paradiso.

So what do I expect from LiVe now and into the future?

I hope that the ego is left at the door and Ed realizes once and for all that it's not about Him.

The songs, the band, the fans are bigger than the words he wrote and chords he strummed - it's about US not just Ed.

We deserve him to sing those songs for US the fans to lift us up and bring us together - LiVe are one of the few remaining Bands on the PLANET who are capable of doing this. U2 in their day, Springsteen and others who see their job not as 2 hours of music but as a communal, a gathering, a rising. A moment out of time where people can forget all of the fucked up bullshit that's going on around the world and soar with the music regardless of whether they have money or are of a certain race or set of beliefs.

If Ed and CT and the guys realize that this is it for them - their last stop before a nostalgia act and they are dead serious about making real music again. Then this is what I expect from LiVe..

I expect Ed to go out with His brothers and shred his voice every night like the boss, I expect him to reach deep within himself and find the guts to admit he wouldn't be nothing but an old bald drunk from York if it wasn't for the fans and the music and repay each and every one of us with the performances and passion we deserve.

Run to the water, lightning crashes, heaven, tsufl, lakini, O S, wings, S T D, etc....

These songs are bigger than LiVe and if the band delivers them to us in the way we deserve and the way the songs deserve.

We will give them the best fucking shows they can imagine.

Those fans at Paradiso got ripped off - it was a bullshit wankfest for Ed and his projected high voice. And they still sung every word and made it magic - the fans - not the band.

If the same show happens again and my favorite band LiVe shows up and really plays - REALLY - plays like they mean it. None of us will care if they ever sell a record again - they'll be doing what they were meant to do. Lift people up and bring them together by the power of their music.

I don't think I'm expecting too much...

it was a hack job for all the reasons you mentioned PLUS the whole band played the songs too quickly. it sounded rushed. they wanted to pack all of their "hits" into a limited sized DVD format. I felt like I was on speed when I watched it, and I don't like listening to Live when I'm on speed. CCP acknowledged this fact in the run up to the TT era anyway, that they needed to go back and re-learn how to play the songs properly (slower) so hopefully everyone has learned from everything.
