What to expect from +Live+..., now that Ed is back Options

On the current state with Chris, they had several concerts planned in the fall of 2015, internally it was decided to end the band with Shinn and go into an unannounced hiatus period.

they began working on new songs together, all contributing actual songs, lyrics and musical progressions. Those songs are diverse and different, with old Live sound, and some new Live sound. But most certainly has the 'hook you' in LIVE feel.

This probably deserves its own thread, but what does everybody take from this? I always look forward to new Live material, in whatever "version" the band is operating in at the time, so this has me considerably pumped to see what comes out. After like 25 years I think it's a bit of an oddity to still have a band that isn't exactly a household name bringing out new material even with a relatively strong fanbase. So I see us as lucky (even though I cringe at the thought of hearing another ed solo album using the Live name)

Diverse and different...so are we getting different genres? Every song is different. I would say all the songs on SS are diverse and different, but one can argue they have an overarching feel or flavour, so what kind of diversity are we talking about? Are they throwing caution to the wind in the pointless quest to be popular on the radio again and experimenting with crazy shit? Because I for one would love to see some real creativity instead of just trying to capture a sound of yesterday. I think ed was quoted somewhere as saying some songs are really different, and some aren't exactly gonna re-invent the wheel. I kind of like that, because at the end of the day it is just rock and roll, and you don't have to try and change the universe with every track. That is like the first time ever he has spoken about Live music in grounded terms, instead of the usual "its gonna be great...just wait till you see what's next...it sounds like throwing copper" bullshit.

I expect if everyone in the band is contributing, there may be more of a TDTH and/or SS feel to the songwriting. I wonder if there will be more sonic experimentation like on the second half of the Garden EP, or if they're going more in the direction of Zoe's stuff, or just really heavy. They have their own studio, so they can sit down and tweak stuff, and add effects, odd instruments, synthesizers all night long. If they wanted to really explore sonic weirdness, I think that could be pretty cool.

Idk, I thought it was pretty out there for Ed's solo output. More complex song structure and working with an electronic framework might yield some interesting results.

Not much point being in a pro rock band of Live's stature if you can only get a few thousand people to buy your albums, even if it was a great album, which I think it was. The Turn probably cost them quite a bit of money, that's not something you can just keep doing, no matter how much you love it.

Everybody in the business does it for $$$ to some extent, just like everybody else in the working world. Not a thing wrong with it.

I agree 100%. It's their brand and they should do whatever they can to get the most out of it.

Having Ed back in the fold has already landed them some festivals and probably a higher billing too.
