My opinion now is the same as it was when they hired Shinn. They should have called themselves "Live + Chris Shinn." Keep the Live legacy going, while simultaneously acknowledging that it was a new era for the band... And they get to use a cool + sign to boot.

What left a bad taste in my mouth wasn't that they kept the Live name, but that in marketing their shows and the album they made absolutely no attempt to let people know it was a new lineup. If you didn't follow the drama online, then you'd possibly have no idea Shinn was in the band until you saw them.

As for calling it The Gracious Few, that would have actually been worse for me. At least with Live they had a band that hadn't made a great album in over a decade. It would have been much more disappointing to compare Chris Shinn's work against Kevin Martin's than it would against Ed's recent body of work.

Besides which, if there was any money in The Gracious Few they probably would have left Live dead and buried while they worked with Kevin Martin, at least until they got the opportunity to reunite with Ed.

I don't consider it a Live album just like I don't consider Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington an STP album.

Like I said when they came out with The Turn they should have done the same thing with their album. If they would have presented as "Live with / featuring Chris Shinn" they would have avoided a lot of fan drama. They probably also could have kept the album up for sale with the return of Ed.

Very offtopic. But I cannot be the only one who thinks that the hailed riff to Siren's Call sounds a LOT like You are the world.

And yet the same principle remains. It's still an STP album.

And no, they wouldn't have avoided "fan drama" because that is what most fans are good for. You can can please all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but... you can figure the rest.

AIC has been touring for years. Is Layne still alive? Did I miss something?

It's STP, "With Chester Bennington". Pretty clear he is not STP. Live should have done the same promotion with Shinn. He was with Live.

There was no drama with STP fans. The band made it clear that they were STP minus Scott. They didn't tour as just STP like Live did. There was no "who is better" crap, or a Scott and Chester fan base rift simply because of how the band presented itself.

The way Live proceeded did cause fan drama. Just read the boards.

Regardless, it is extremely sad that there will never be another STP album with the original lineup again. No reunion can ever occur. Enjoy what we have with Live.

Oh, there was a pretty massive rift in the STP fan community. Next to that, the rift in the Live fan base looks kind of quaint, actually.

You're absolutely correct of course, that was an STP EP.

More like an EP featuring members of STP.

If you consider The Turn a Live album then I'd argue that TGF is too.

Except that it says The Gracious Few on the cover.

What you "consider" to be a Live album is irrelevant. It's a Live album, whether you recognise it as such or not, and TGF is a TGF album, also regardless of your perceptions or desires.

Sorry to disagree here.

Big difference between these 2 records. TGF really is a old-fashionned rock record with Kevin Martin's influence.

In fact, the Turn has some of the old Live sounds from Secret Samadhi. The guitar work in NBK is annexample of that.

One of the only Unified Theory influence is on till you come around, probably Chris's song all along, but still a beautiful one.
