Both in style and sound... do you consider it a Live album?

I didn't when it came out, and I still don't. I like the music. But my opinion at the time is the same as it is now - I wish they had put out that album under a different band name. I was a big fan of TGF too, and am glad that it wasn't put out as a Live album.

if Live put it out, then it's a Live album. Pretty simple.

In hindsight I now agree. If this was released under a different name I'd be hopeful that they would collaborate again. They should retroactively rename the band name.

I am in agreement with fans above, that they should not have stuck Live's name on it. But because they did, I had to vote yes. eh.gif

It is/was Chad, Chad, Chris, and Pat's album to define and they defined it as a Līve album. Some may have hated Līve with Chris and some may hate it now with Ed, but asking whether or not we "consider it" a Līve album is just divisive. Because it's just a backhanded way of saying "did you consider Līve with Shinn as really Līve?" You may not have liked Līve with Shinn, but like it or not it was Līve.

I loathe SFBM, but ECCP signed off on it as a Līve album so it's a Līve album. Simple stuff.

I consider it a good album. But not a Live album. At least to me.

Definitely Live to me with Siren's Call and WOTD. Just a different era/interpretation. And it sounds more Live than sfbm even without Ed

It was cool at the time but looking back now I think they should have used The Gracious Few banner for this album. Having two albums with two different singers would have been ok with me since the band is a side project. That would lead to some excitement over who the next singer for the next TGF album one day.

Agreed. It doesn't sound like Live, but they said it is, so it is.

Hindsight being 20/20, I agree. However, I'm sure going with Live instead of TGF was, again, purely a business decision. For whatever reason they couldn't get much excitement going with TGF, probably because both Live and Candlebox were at the lower ends of their popularity around 2010. They definitely made more money touring as Live 2.0 then TGF.

Speaking of Live 2.0, do we need to retroactively name that something else and call the current incarnation, Live 2.0.

I don't think so. This is now Live 3.0.

In both style and sound, how similar are Secret Samadhi and The Distance To Here? Not very, imo. Yet both are held up as the template of what Live is.

Live has always been about the sum more than the individual parts. That was true when it was ECCP, it was true when it was CCCP, and it's still true now. The sound on The Turn may be "different", but so will the sound on their next album. That has always been a characteristic of the band from one album to the next.
