I've seen a lot of talk about how Līve handled the reunion news and how they handled Chris Shinn's departure. Līve obviously are a part of society and are beneficiaries of the technological conveniences we've all grown accustomed to. We expect news to arrive to us fast as soon as it takes place. So when we found out how long ago this decision had been made maybe some were put off by that.

Līve didn't grow up in the social media age. While the guys have all embraced social media, the function of Līve has always been one of stretches of silence. And they have always made odd choices here and there. So in the grand scheme of things the way they handled the reunion and Chris' departure should probably be seen as par for the course.

I think you make a great point. It seemed like they were waiting for him to comment first, which I don't necessarily disagree with, so that he could be the one to make the official statemenet. It was almost a relief to see them all embrace each other they way they did following Chris's post. And you're right, we expect to know everything right away and that's not how Live has historically operates.. What turned me off was that while we were waiting to hear from any of them about Chris's departure, we had someone close to the band eluding to Chris not having balls or ripping on him for forgetting lyrics. It almost stirred the pot for something more sinister.

It's possible they simply didn't want to draw attention to the fact that Live had switched singer at all. Fact is, most of the public probably had minimal awareness that Chris had ever been in the band.

Despite being a great album, The Turn has sold what, 10,000 copies total? Most people would neither know nor care about Chris Shinn, and any reference to him would simply draw more attention to a period they are obviously trying to leave behind and detract from the message.

Good that they have now acknowledged him though.

This is where it went off the rails for me. Looking back it's not fair to point the finger at CCP for what someone else commented on. Since Shinn knew about this for 8 months I'd assume they all talked and said their peace privately. Still could've been handled better, but I'm glad it's out of the way for both Shinn and Live.

Agreed. The statement from Chris and the responses from Chad, Chad, and Patrick almost completely negate the bad mouthing done by that individual at Chris's expense. It was so incredibly unprofessional. Even though he has stated he doesn't represent the band, he's the closest thing to actual representation the band has on social media. And the way he has attacked fans and then Chris? It just didn't sit right with me. Off the rails indeed.

I read through that thread yesterday, I was astonished that somebody with a professional relationship with the band would act like that. Petty bickering is for fans, members and associates of bands should be steering well clear of such things.

I know the band sometimes read this forum, are they even aware what he was up to? I'd be embarrassed if I were them.

I can't tell you how many times I've wondered the same exact thing. His public attitude towards those that disagree with him or his inner circle just doesn't jive from what I remember the Live community to be. I mean there were always disagreements here and there and it's entirely possible that these ARE things the band thinks or feels but it was never put out there by them directly. And to my knowledge, they have never personally attacked fans to the level that he has (even if the fan was out of line). If I'm wrong, I'll concede that last point.

I occasionally post on a Queen forum that has a similar problem. The official archivist for the band posts there a lot, and is extremely argumentative and disruptive. I get that people go after him because of who he is, but "who he is" is the very reason he shouldn't be posting on a fan forum.

Although ironically CT was actually quite rude to me once on a... different forum, I lamented the lack of advance material from the Turn and he blasted me, called me whiny and demanding, but you know, I thought I was discussing my personal hopes with fans, not directly addressing a member of the fucking band. lol.gif

And that sounds an awful lot like what we've been hearing/seeing from this guy. So I'll concede my earlier statement. Getting back to what the original post said, sometimes we do expect to know things as soon as possible given that we are so much ensconced in the digital age and social media. I'm not implying that you said anything wrong at all so please don't misconstrue that as a dig against you. The other thing that is lost with all this typing/texting/social media is the loss of context. A simple message is now being interpreted as rude when in reality, the intention could have been anything but. Now when you go on a forum and imply someone doesn't have balls or say someone is an ungrateful piece of shit, well context might not be necessary.

Bill got me tickets and front row for Shinn's debut so for that I am very grateful. He just seems to go off on major rants and crosses the line to get his point across.

The fact that The Thrill had to eat crow and make amends with Nick is probably punishment enough and hopefully a lesson learned. Bill got me tickets and front row for Shinn's debut so for that I am very grateful. He just seems to go off on major rants and crosses the line to get his point across.

I know that there are many people who love him because he has done so many things for some of the fans. And then there are many others who just aren't part of his inner circle. Let's face it, because of him (and with the band's permission), there are a lot of people who have been invited to see what it's like behind the curtain. And I won't lie for one second and say that I'm not just a little bit jealous that I'm not a part of that. My issue with him is that when someone speaks out against something the band does (even at times saying the exact same thing he has) or if someone expresses contempt that they are left out of something, he lashes out with name calling, etc. If he didn't do that? I'd probably have little to no issue with him.

I remember that, although I remember it as he was addressing the (alleged) impatient fans in general as opposed to any specific individual. And to be fair to CT I think I recall him posting again in that thread and maybe apologising for it or acknowledging that maybe that wording was a bit harsh or something.

Shame the board isn't still up to read. Like this board, reading the old stuff can be really fun.

I wasn't offended by CT (more embarrassed really to be scolded by one of my most admired guitarists blush.gif ) and he actually quickly apologised for calling me whiny. He seems like a nice guy who just forgot where he was for a moment, it was pretty innocuous compared to what we are talking happening here.

Exactly what I mean, I don't doubt he's a decent bloke in real life, we're all guilty of acting like asses on the internet I am SURE, but people actually connected to the band should steer well clear if they can't control themselves, as the assumption will always be that they speak for the band, even if that isn't the case and they don't claim as much.

I was composing my other thread while you posted that, I am pretty sure he directly quoted me, but apart from that yes that is exactly what happened, he very quickly apologised for being too harsh. I was pathetically starstruck anyway lol.gif
