Not really a fan. The charm of DOAD is that it isn't a great recording, it is of its time and place ... ~45yr old men playing it in a polished up recording sort of takes away from what really makes it a thing. Rerecording MJ feels like a bad idea too, maybe with Chris as it had a purpose, but not with Ed, and not just because he'd make it sound like balls by making all those really genuine songs sound forced and fake. Leave old recordings as they are .. master them if must, but I think its gotta be new material or bust if you don't want to be, as CT said he dreaded the idea of, being a nostalgia act.

Yeah, I'd agree with Pokeymon tbh. A big part of what makes MJ special is the rasp of Ed's voice and he just can't do that anymore. So I wouldn't really want them to record it all again. As for DOAD... I dunno. I just don't care the material that much, and they're kids on that one. I'd rather they worked on getting out some more outtakes from SS/TDTH.

It's been discussed somewhere previously in this thread, but I don't think MJ even needs a re-recording. That album sounds pretty polished to me. But I have been listening to death of a dictionary lately on youtube and I gotta say, its a pretty kickass bunch of songs (never really gave it any time before).

So what do you guys think of a studio recording of DOAD under the name of Live as a way to get back to their roots and offer the fans a more professional version of some of their earliest work?

A few of those songs are a complete embarrassment and should never be played again. Just sayin'. If DOAD was my first exposure to the band, I wouldn't have been a fan. Couple good ones as well, of course, you can hear the potential, but a lot of filler.

Honestly I think if it was an actual album that had an actual release, most Live fans would hate it. It's the fact that it is rare (well, was, the internet ruined that) and a demo that most people were never going to hear.

I have to agree with everything you wrote here. It's a good rarity and glimpse into LIVE's beginnings, but that is about it in my opinion. A couple decent songs, but i, in no way want a re-record of the entire album. The only songs i would imagine liking re-rocorded would be the songs i like off of DOAD - 'Saviour for a Day' and 'Raising a Man'.

Savior is one of the only good tracks. Raising a Man? Not sure I agree.

It's ok, better to be sure though.

Definitely not worst for me, at least in context. Ed was what, 15/16 when he wrote it? A far cry from being in your 30s and 40s and writing stuff like Bottle of Anything

Unless he was also questioning his sexuality, that's no excuse. And "in context", didn't he write Good Pain around that same time?
