I went to see an Ed show and couldn't really get past the fact that there was another band there playing Live songs. Kind of the reverse of what you are saying. It was still enjoyable, but it wasn't right.

No - I agree. That's a reason I didn't go see Ed play as well. Kind of same for why I didn't go see Live with Chris as its singer (they came to my city before The Turn was released for summer fest maybe?). I don't think i would have minded seeing Live play songs from The Turn with Chris, but there's something weird about Chris singing (and I have heard sometimes forgetting) lyrics that were written by someone else years ago.

Well Ed was selling tickets for $5 at that show I went to, I was enjoying Alive so I figured why not?

Shinn was put in a tough spot. People who never heard him sing hated him from the start. More on that later.

The guy was electric. I have literally never seen a better performance of Freaks than I did when I saw Live (with Shinn) perform here in Oklahoma.

I had seen Live (with Ed) perform many times before and they were exceptional. Loved every minute of it. Saw Hold Me Up, Believe, and Vine Street in concert. Live (with Ed) was amazing. They NEVER did Freaks like Shinn did.

I will never, ever, forget the Shinn show. As Pokey (my nemesis) mentioned, 6310 is just balls. When they did 6310 here it was on a different level than the other songs of the show. By that I mean Shinn, and CCP, went through the motions on the hits. But 6310...Shinn was in the zone...you could see the song in his face. Every word of it. It was like he had to snap himself back into the show.

It reminded me of old Ed. It truly did.

Siren's Call is a top 5 Live song. Sorry, not debatable. Debate the other top 4, but SC holds a spot. It is fact.

Take note of who is negative towards Shinn or doesn't post a thanks to Shinn in this thread. Those are the people who never gave him a chance. Those are the people whose opinions I would be VERY skeptical of.

I hope new Live comes hard and raw and loud.

I wish Shinn nothing but the best.

Shinn definitely performed his own songs better than Ed's songs. 6310 was personal to him so yeah, Shinn was passionate about it. But he couldn't remember I alone lyrics to save his life. That should automatically disqualify someone from being Live's frontman. Shinn had his strengths an weaknesses. His voice shreds in concert but he lacks charisma on stage or in the interviews. I'm glad he stepped in, but I think CCP are just a bit above his level of talent. Not debatable. it is fact. haha

It is very debatable, musical taste is based on personal preference, that is a fact. Your Top 5 list is yours, and yours alone, you do not speak for everyone else.

but you gotta move forward and this is exactly what the band seems to be doing. The future looks bright.

Does it look bright? Or does it look bleak? I say the latter. As for moving forward, this the exact opposite of forward to me. This running backwards. They said the only way around is through, guess not, the only way around is backwards.

Like I've said, what is there to be positive about? If Ed had even done a shred of anything in the past god knows how many years that made me go "hey he's come good again!" maybe I could be positive about it. But he hasn't, he's a hack in my eyes. So, why would it suddenly be good now? Look at the last album he put out as an indication of his latest level of quality .. that really gets me excited about Live! Wonder if he'll bring the same level of "intensity" to Live as he did on Parasite when he was singing about how awful CCP were?

You know - you're right like, but I still do believe that things might actually turn out just fine. Everyone has ups and downs. Even Bob Dylan. I mean he has made some shite albums in the past, and then out of the blue he has put out some great stuff later on. May not be Ed's case, but you never know.

Ed's up was for 7 years, his down was for 16 years, so, to me its really hard to see an upward swing and it would have to be something drastic to make up ground. But I mean thats the thing, other people don't feel that way and thats cool. I can only speak for myself, so if other people are really more positive, more power to them. I just simply don't understand it, but whatever.

Anyhoo, this is about Chris and how awesome he was for the time he was in Live. I'm actually more excited about whatever Chris does next than what Live do. I'd love a follow up to Everything is Energy

Agreed. I know Siren's Call gets lots of love, and deservedly so. But By Design is my fav from The Turn and a top 10 all time Live song for me. It just has the catchiest chorus for me, but more than that, the verses are so utterly different. Its like two totally different songs combined into one and somehow it works. The music is actually really interesting. There is more interesting things going on in that one song than either of Ed's solo albums or BOP and SFBM combined.

Man I am going to miss this

https://youtu.be/U5G0u4WMDNQ

And this 6310 too ... the passion in his delivery. That's what was so missing from Live. Nothing seemed to reek of passion with Ed anymore. Everything was choreographed and smooth and planned and a "show". Look back at the Rhode Island 93 gig and the absolute desperation in Ed's voice. That had all vanished. And with songs like this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Edtv6TZu5t4 - I felt like it came back.
