"The Ride" is one of the better songs off of "V". V is a really good album and it really wasn't meant to be an official album.

I don't know how other people's brains work, but when I hear any Live song my experience of that song is shaped in part by the album cover-art that accompanies the song. Basically, the visual landscape that occurs in my mind whenever a song is played will look like, or feel like, the art work that it is a part of.

So for example; when throwing copper is on, the Peter Howson painting is vividly informing my experience of the music, with its muddy tones and windswept, seaside imagery. All of the songs on that album appear brown to me, they are “painted”, they are oily and pastel, the songs themselves become an extension of that cover. When I listen to Mental Jewelry, the songs are purple, they are actually naked. The songs take on the form or character of the artwork. Its so hard to explain, blah.

But yeh, as much as I dig some songs off V, I can't help but see Ed with the Richard Simmons haircut and that stupid faux tough guy album cover art, even when my music is on shuffle and only one V song comes on. It doesn't ruin the songs...just taints them I guess, or puts them in that place where the album cover art exists in.

My reaction to the entire V album was "WTF?", but in a good way. It is weird, but I like it.

I like some of V, but The ride is not one of it. Musically weak, don't like the fake orchestra or whatever there is in the chorus plus the high pitched voice. Liked SC, FBNBLE! PYL, TYL (musically) but the ride is a sub Rattlesnake with that same kind of intro.

He totally had a Richard Simmons haircut. That's a good job by you.
