What to expect from +Live+..., now that Ed is back Options

I think along the lines of 2017. If of course they do have a plan to record an album. Or maybe they are recording already. Time will tell

Yeah, that's the first thing, no need to get ahead of ourselves, but it's just too obvious something is brewing.

I have seen some fans hope for a re-release of previous albums as remasters and with bonus tracks…

I would love that!

However, as far as I last recall, Live does not own their previous albums. In other words, they would have to get approval to touch anything as far as a re-release. It might be one reason why The Churchbox Sessions were released via a controlled leak and not made available direct-to-the-public. Any recordings made while the record company was paying for studio time would most likely remain property of the record company.

I have worked on re-releases for others and have had to go through the red tape of dealing with previous record companies. It's no easy task.

Why is it such a hassle to get songs that were never released anyway? STUPID, if you ask me.

And they don't record songs that they never expected to release. If they do them and they don't think they work, that's one thing. But no record company is saying "we're never releasing those songs, let's go into the studio and lay them down".

LIVE is no longer on that label. Demos especially are never expected to be released, those should be released, and some are. No LIVE demos were ever officially released by MCA/Radioactive errr whatever other record companies they were with. Also, why would the former record company hang onto LIVE songs? Do you expect them to release a new LIVE album soon? No.

It doesn't matter if Live is no longer on that label. That label still paid for the studio time and paid for everything else that was charged to the company during each album's sessions. If they made demos during sessions that the record company paid for, then the record company owns those recordings.

This isn't something new. It's been going on since record companies began. Why do you think there have been so many re-recorded songs/albums by the likes of Journey, Foreigner, KISS, etc.?

As to why the label would hold on to Live's (or anyone's) recordings? I would think the answer is as plain as day: to recoup money by licensing the rights back to the band if said band would like to release a retrospective package or re-release.

How long was Ed in York? I know he has been writing pretty hardcore on new material. The assumption was for solo album 3, but I am thinking it was for a new Live album. 2017 may be a very good year to be a Live fan.

They record the demos expecting to re-do them and record them for an album. Sometimes they don't work. So no, they don't release demos, and that particular recording isn't intended to be released. But the song is intended to be released.

There's no money to be made in releasing a Live B-Sides or Demos collection now, so the label has zero reason to do so.

Obviously, which is why i don't understand why people say they have legal hurdles to jump through to get these. All they have to do is buy the rights back from the record company. My point all along has been - why is it so difficult to do this? I know all this stuff you guys keep replying but it seems more trivial than it should be.
