Purifier, Speculation Thread Options

While I'm not crazy for this song I definitely think there are only a few songs on the past couple of albums that I like more (Like I Do, Night of Nights, Lighthouse, to name a couple). To me that is a great sign, and this all lends a ton of support to the fact that we all love Live more when they write TOGETHER. This track seems to recapture some of the spirit of past efforts (love or hate V but it was spirited and musically interesting) so hopefully the love it too.

This song remind anyone else of "Tired of Me"? I think it's the general rhythm of the song.

Not their worst ever imo, too many contenders for that..Home, YANA, Love Shines etc. but one of the more disappointing. Mostly because their rendition of God Don't Never Change was really good and that's what turned into Purifier.

Well that was a damn good song, full of energy and I agree its one of the best things they've done in close to a decade. And may a say a big fuck you to people who always harp on about the "negative" fans on the board who don't like anything Live do etc ... if Live puts out good shit like this only then is there no need to be negative.
I agree that it's awesome they used John Popper simply for his harmonica and no vocals (not a big fan of his voice anyways) as it just gave it a bit of a different edge .. I dunno this song just had something different thats been lacking lately, blazing guitar, funky bass ... its far from my favorite Live song but god it's a step, nay leap, in the right direction.

I guess context is everything. Have you ever loved a song only to eventually be bored by it? Found you can't stand it at all? In the context of what Live was offering at the time, and I still maintain it is better than Forever and everything on SFBM. It has a bit of fire and the music behind it is pretty good. I enjoyed the music behind God Don't Never Change so Purifier ended up very similar. Musically it ain't bad. Lyrically it's pretty bad, but that's Ed. And his voice even on songs I also previously liked is hard to handle. The line about "the choir, yeah yeah" or whatever it is in Purifier is bad.
But I still enjoy God Don't Never Change, even in its poor quality so it's disappointing they didn't just go with that cover, hence it is a disappointing song. But it's far from Live's worst and at the time it gave a sliver of hope that maybe something good was going to happen. Gotta remember at the time it came out a lot of Live fans were grasping at straws wanting anything to give them hope that the band could be good again. I was no different. So even now I don't hate the song, it's just disappointing given what it could have been. If it turns up in my playlist on shuffle I'll generally listen to it still, but I'd be unlikely to actively seek it out to listen to.

Same for Sofia too. The live extended version of that is much better than the album version but I enjoy the funk it has. The lyrics are attacious and make it unlistenable to me. Hence I'd similarly classify it now as one of the more disappointing. At the time, with so much songs on SFBM that had no redeeming qualities, it was at least something.
