The Distance To Here... My dad used to listen Throwing Copper's Lightning Crashes when i was 9, in 94, but i don't understand why don't like Live at that time... then in 99 in my dad house, in MTV Latin America, the premiere of the video The Dolphin's Cry... mmm sounds interesting... and i fell in love of Live with that video!!!

it was my revelation, the rock now have another significance... i ran to listen my dad's CD of Trowing Copper, and the next day i went to Can Cun and buy all the Live CDs at that time, and i was lucky, i buy Mental Jewerly, Throwing Copper (national, very different version of the USA one), In Conversation, Secret Samadhi, The Dolphin's Cry (single part 1), MTV Buzz Bin (with PLOTRS) and the Woodstock 94 VHS (with Selling The Drama), so, my first look was The Dolphin's Cry Video, buuuuut, in the next day i start to listen all the Live CDs, so I think that i were no hooked by any CD, just for the Band in self!!!! thumbsup.gif

Mine is almost exactly the same story as you. My dad used to listen to Throwing Copper, then I heard Heaven on the radio and asked my dad who this band was. He replied Live and the radio DJ talked about how Live was the dominant band (for good reason) in the 90's. Later I found Throwing Copper in his collection, and fell in love of course. Surprisingly, I always skip Heaven on the BOP CD when it comes on. Go figure.

Still, after I have expanded my love for music in different genres, I always come back to Live's first four albums. I still believe they can make another great album, but they just choose not to. They earned their money, now they don't want to take any risks so they make their songs like stale crackers... if you are really hungry for that cracker, you'll eat it...if you are really hungry for new powerful, emotional Live music, you'll listen to their new music, but its just not satisfying. O well... there are other bands.

i agree. i just listened to 'home' and could imagine ed gathering the group together to discuss how they would perform the song live. Everyone has to throw their hands in the air whenever ed says home during the song to form the shape of a roof.

But the guys rightfully disagreed.

This is my first post here, even though I have read the message board for years!

My husband bought Throwing Copper and I liked it. I got hooked when I saw them LIVE in 1995. We were at a huge arena and they were doing TBD, as the song reached the crescendo Ed was not on the stage but had snuck through the tunnels and ended up on the opposite side of the stage. All lights focused on him and I was entertained!!! He also commented on how not to take garlic pills right before a performance because your burps are nasty. Instant love for the band. I felt like they were in front of a bunch of good friends playing their songs.

Best in the world!!

Hi everybody,

I just registered - this is my first post - so this is a good topic to start the ball rolling. Live has been my favorite band since MJ. When I listen to their albums, different songs evoke memories of the phases of my life. It's so very ironic that my current phase could probably best be described as "mid-life crisis" which some could argue would be a fitting description for SFBM eh.gif

Its an ancient thread, but I'll respond.

Was on break at my job in the mall with one of my friends, he wanted to run to the music store to buy the new Live album. To that point I'd never heard of them. We went to the store and found out that Throwing Copper was not coming out that week, but the following week. this was pre-internet, obviously, so it wasn't as easy to confirm such things.

On the way back to work after lunch, we swung by his car and grabbed his Mental Jewelry CD to listen to back in the store.

I was floored. How had I missed this? After my shift ended, I went right back to the music store and bought a copy of Mental Jewelry. The following week I bought Throwing Copper AND Four Songs, and I have had all of the albums on the release date (or before, there was a local store that used to cheat!) ever since.

The rest, as they say, is history.

I just voted on this last night, with polls when you vote they go to the top of the thread list.
Also, since i'm a new poster i have been replying to older topics which interest me. I mean, sometimes this place is just so stagnant that it needs a shot in the arm to get going. I know with the present state of the band being a mystery as far as specifics there is only speculation on our part, so not alot to talk about.

Fun poll!

All through the 80's, I loved (still love) heavy metal. My fave genre are "hair bands." Back then, every week, I'd use my babysitting money to buy the latest albums, concert tickets (I remember a general admission concert ticket being 20-25 dollars!), t-shirts, buttons/pins for my denim jacket, and metal magazines (Metal Edge, RIP, Hit Parader, Circus). I had metalhead pen pals all over the world (pre-Internet when we wrote actual letters)... Ah, those were the "good old days!" In my little "shit towne", you could not get MTV with your cable, you had to have a satellite dish. We were too poor for that. I would babysit every Friday night for a family that had a dish (selfishly, so I could watch Headbangers Ball after the kids went to bed). I remember the day in 1991 when I saw Nirvana's video premier on MTV and my heart started to beat fast, as I knew that hair metal's reign was about to be over. At the same time/shortly after, MTV was playing Operation Spirit in heavy rotation. It's hard to put into words what that song and video (them dancing around that bonfire on the beach) did for me. They were mysterious, different, intriguing. I went and bought M.J. (cassette!) and listened to it over and over. Love every song on that album. Hair bands indeed slowly fell by the wayside. Early 90s I remember getting into Faith No More and Red Hot Chili Peppers too (didn't listen to them until Blood Sugar Sex Magik, which off the top of my head was also 1991, I think)... LIVE's music just came into my life at the perfect time. Their music carried me through college. --They were my go-to CD's to spin when I was studying. I remember as a junior in college, in my dorm room, tearing off the plastic of my new Secret Samadhi CD... for
some reason, it's such a vivid memory...the brand new smell of the liner notes, pouring over those lyrics....

What an awesome band.

A mixture in my case. The song that hooked me was Irish – this is Live's gold standard, Live stamp. The album that hooked me was TDTH. In retrospect, the album that keeps me hooked as it never gets old is Secret Samadhi – one of the best heavy rock albums of all time.

I just come to the forum after some long time and I am drunk as hell. Found that the boys may be back again, with Ed, gotta love it. What got me to Love was their album Throwing Cooper (what the hell does it mean anyway), back in the days I wa hooked to grunge music and had my own band, As soon I heared about Live we did ur own versions of I Alone, Shit Town, Lightinig Crashes. After that, I got addicted to Live. TDTH is my favourite album of all time. Love the back in the days when I had my computer on all nigth to download a shit version of some Live song on Napster, SInce I heard they split up, I kinda lost interest but still buy all Ed Solo shit and TGF and new Live. I hope to see Live live some day. I even called my daughter Iris, the most beautiful name on the planet.

Ciao from Bosnia!

The Dolphin's Cry/The Distance To Here.

TDC was a huge hit here in The Netherlands and the video and single were on high rotation.
I was aware of earlier singles (I Alone, Lightning Crashes, Turn My Head especially), but TDC made me love them instantly. Later picked up the album and loved it from start to finish (still do).
The rest is history (and expensive). lol.gif
