I think if it was - just - simply to create a buzz, they've made a mistake by taking too long. It should have been 2 weeks max.

Nah I think a long break works more effectively. It gets some buzz, then plants doubt, then things like the low key Ed video perks up again...it's like a slow drip. I'm usually rolling my eyes at anything Live or CCP do in this regard since they're so bad at it. But this is one I actually think they've done well (so far). They know the hard core people will continue to hang on and hold out hope and will be there whenever they make the announcement. And disappearing totally from the casual fan/general public's eye for a time helps to reset things. Start afresh. It's more of a shock when they come back for the people who genuinely think they're done. Getting it all over and done within 2 weeks is just a waste if they aren't ready to do something after they announce. Better to hold of the announcement so that the wait time between announcement and delivering something is shorter.

Debate is healthy. Different opinions is good. Everyone kissing CCP or Ed's ass constantly no matter what they do and become glorified yes men is lame. If people question nothing and accept literally anything then to me it sort of invalidates their opinion. If all they do is foam at the mouth over anything their "side" does without question then they may as well write out their responses to anything ahead of time because you'll always know what they think. I like when people can see a balance. It's why I'm trying hard to look for positives even if my opinion is mostly negative, like believing Ed'a work ethic will be a good thing for CCP. And even though I loved TGF and The Turn, I simply cannot support anything CCP does blindly and I'll call them out on things I dislike or disagree with. To me that sort of thinking is at least thinking. Even if the views are totally different to someone else's then it's still thinking about things.

So yeah, debate and a bit of arguing is healthy. What is poison were the personal attacks and real nastiness of old. Which I fully admit I was guilty of taking part in. A lot of others still here did and that went to WD.com did too. That's something I'm not interested in taking part in ever again. And from what I can tell, that's largely stopped.

I'm not a Facebook-er, so I'm unable to see the comments & of course, had no idea the page existed. I'm assuming that it's not an official Live page? Is it the majority of people from that other board that closed down? I'm just curious to know if it's opinions from unbiased fans/"regular" lurkers, is all. If not, I wouldn't worry about it.

Having been a member here for a couple of years now and also having been a member of message boards of other bands and other interests over the years, I can say this... when I was new here a couple of years ago, there was a lot of butt kissing of CCCP and a lot of remnants of Ed-hating going on. That bothered me, but obviously not too much, because I stayed. But I am a fan "in the middle" because I didn't care for Shinn, don't like Ed's solo work or how he changed style the latter years of Live. Live breaking up broke my heart, but I didn't get all up in arms over who's fault it was. There's two sides to every story, we will never know the full story, and it's really between ECCP and none of my business, really. So, on this board, being in the middle, it sorta felt out of place. But, I wanted an outlet to talk about Live... I've never been a member of a Live community and I've loved them since the beginning, so here I stay. With that said, the Shinn butt kissing obviously dwindled. I like it here. I think majority of the time, when opinions differ, it stays respectful. I've seen one person get a lot of flack, and we all know about it, but there's a lot of back story there that I don't know about, so I'll stay out of it. That person seems to handle it well and dangum is a great moderator, but... I can see a random lurker seeing that and thinking this board is nasty, and he/she wouldn't understand. -Which is why, at the top of my post, I asked who.
I will say this, it's a very private place and the same amount of time I've spent on other boards, I have made great friends on those boards, but not here. Fans of another band that I love who I talk to daily or weekly, have met, and have gone to shows with, or just hung out. It's not a complaint at all, just an observation. There are great, respectful people here, the drama is nil, and so whoever it is over there on that other page are just jelly! smile.gif

When the website faded to black, the band had built up some hype with the fans through their FB page. Then, it got a little (key word, little) media attention. It would have been great to do an announcement at that time. But they let the excitement dwindle again and it got all quiet & as a fan, I got bored & tired of waiting. I've been anticipating a reunion announcement since July! This recent radio interview getting out has gotten me excited again, but I honestly think it was an oopsy. I believe Ed was supposed to stay quiet and he couldn't help himself.

Anyway, I hope your analysis of the long amount of time they are taking is the right one.

Back in the old days of this board there were a lot of meetups at shows. Most of those people stopped coming here, including myself, because of the bickering. I have made some really great friends here though many of whom I still hang out with on a regular basis and a few that will be coming with me on a Live reunion roadtrip. I've even met Live fans at shows from other countries because of this board. Pretty amazing! Maybe the board will pick back up again soon.

I'm as guilty as anyone when it comes to bickering, but we totally need to stick together on this. Live's competition isn't Ed vs. CCP, Live's competition is all the other bands and fanbases out there. The stronger our fanbase, the stronger Live will be.

As a fan, I want this reunion to be as successful as it possibly can be.

Bickering is a tradition within the Live fanbase since Live-Web, Illout, mIRC, Straight Outta York, etc

I think traffic here is more influenced by how the music started to get worse, and FOL criticism comes mainly from the WD camp, nobody else cares.

Well, I mean Live's competition is also themselves as far as I'm concerned. I don't care about "how wel they do". I care about simply the quality of the music, of which Live's biggest obstacle is alive themselves.

But I know, I know, you only think of music in terms of economics and success is measured in charts and dollars to you. But we don't have to "stick together" or anything. That's back to that idea of Live can do no wrong. Which is cringe worthy. It's as bad as the people who kiss Ed's ass and CCP's ass like they are incapable of doing anything bad. I'd rather see a critical fan base who demand quality from the band, not simply trying to make them more money.

I don't see how our band can come out of what was one of the nastiest break-ups in recent memory, reconnect 7 years on, go ahead with plans to create new material with the clear understanding of how poorly the base welcomed the efforts of the last 16 years, and just "meh" through the process. Unless they really do just care about making a buck, which I just can't accept is the case. And when chad goes and reposts a comment that one fan made about how much live meant to him and how when they worked together the music had the power to move mountains (or something like that), I think it's obvious how important the music is to him.

Even if Ed is the egomaniac some people suspect sometimes, wouldn't he then realise in all his new age wisdom that the early albums made him into a rock n roll god, and the later material detracted from that image immensely, and to regain that egocentric status just go ahead and write and create the music the way he used to?. Basically the answer to the op's question is that I cant see them continuing on, even if just for one last album, with anything less than balls to the wall high quality material, with the care and effort put in to make it something pretty memorable... at least that's what I hope for them and myself

True. Chad could be selling nostalgia to the fans to prep for a 25th anniversary release. And with Ed not privy to rocking like the early albums, they might not be putting out new music, or maybe only one new track. Or maybe a reunion show. We'll see

I think they had reconciled long before any of us realized and have had the time to work out their personal matters. Maybe that's the reason Shinn took a turn for the worse, as some people here say Shinn started off stronger on stage and then went down hill. Maybe it was bothering him or he knew he would be gone and just didn't care anymore. They have only had time though to do a couple of songs with the quality we are all expecting. That's why my vote has always been for two-three new songs on an anniversary re-release. (Cool if was rerecord, but I doubt it).
As for full new album, I can see that happening after a reunion tour. So, one; two years down the line. It's not going to coincide with a reunion announcement, or I'd be highly suspect of the quality.

Why, honest question, do you feel this needs to be successful? You've stated in other postings that it's going to big financially. Why do you feel this way? Why is that important? Viability? Survival? I'm curious to know your real vision on this.
