hopefully they return to at least BoP type music.

i doubt they reach the rawness of tfg or the turn but i really hope they do not churn out sfbm

i hope chris shinn lands on his feet. i do not think he got a fair shake in all this. he was electric in concert. live hadn't sounded liek that is a very long time.

and i do not dislike ed. he went his own way with his own sound and it is fine. i have all his solo work. but i hope this is live returning and not eddieklive or whatever he called himnself

QUOTE(vivapokey @ Oct 26 2016, 12:08 pm) *

Never said the band owed me anything. But, I and others have the have felt that after following all this way that they have taken a giant step backwards. Which amounts to feeling like you've been lead down a dead end road. I'm not the only one who feels that way. Plenty have jumped off the wagon after many years. Some who are real close to the band who put energy and effort into assisting the guys who were glad the toxic environment with Ed was over. Energy and effort into them under the understanding a real change had taken place. But in the end that hasn't happened and they've gone backwards. No, the band doesn't "owe" anyone anything, but people have the right to feel really let down. I only hope that with going backwards they have some really strong safe guards in place on how to make things different this time.

The guys have been lazy and Ed's success has be minimal. You can say they're middle aged etc etc but that's the way they have been for a great deal of time - over promise, under deliver. There were times over the past few years fans have been left pulling their hair out almost begging them to follow up on things - that supposed Strand recording CT posted video of him mastering, the fan contests that never went anywhere, the Throwing Copper AC live album, the Siren's Call single, the stagnant setlists etc. They've been accused of laziness by many for a long time. While personally, I don't really care. Whatever happens happens, and whenever it happens, it happens. But, like I said, Ed on the other hand through all his faults is a workhorse. One area he can help them in is bringing that back to the party. If people are wanting more from them - that is a real positive.

In all, I'm really hesitant and sceptical about the whole thing. But I'm also trying to see positives too. Ed bringing the energy and drive has to be one of them. They need that guy that grabs the bull by the horns. That was one of Chris' weaker points. I loved musically what Chris did, but he wasn't a leader ... and it would have been awkward for him to be so having stepped in like he did.

Do you have to write a novel for every response dude? It's like the same response every time, i mean come on dude really? No hate, it's just really repetitive, have a good day!

i wonder how it will work with ccp and their business stuff and ed only having music.

like will they get together and collaborate and jam or will they do their parts and piece it together?

seems like ccp, mainly ct, have so much going on with race cars and their other comapnies

QUOTE(LiveForNow @ Oct 25 2016, 7:29 pm) *

I think Chad wanted to promote his artist and invited Ed to hangout with them.

Ed mentioned that he invited himself to Zoe's interview.

Gotta say though, I saw the whole conversation with a much different tone.

Right off the bat - Chad spins the first question. The host simply brought up how it must be cool to be at the radio station that first played Live.

Chad somehow turns this question into a conversation regarding the number one most heated point of contention in Live history - whether Ed was the principal songwriter vs. CCP having a collaborative role.

Look at this bizarre line of logic from Chad, just to address the issue:
  • Interesting to think about how far you’ve gone >
  • for instance I didn’t realize music was a form of communication >
  • an ensemble art >
  • one of the greatest attributes of live is that we can make music amongst four people >
  • share in the dynamic of that creativity >
  • what made us magical was our ability to stick together >
  • to make a collective voice >
  • safety in numbers >
  • Ed could have easily done something on his own.
Could you imagine any other band member in the world feeling such a strong need to say things like, I didn't realize music is a form of communication, an ensemble art, what made us magical is our ability to stick together?

I totally agree that the only way Ed was allowed in the band is if he let the ideology of being the sole principal songwriter go.

Ed did cut Chad off mid speech a few times. I think Ed felt like he had to validate himself as a solo artist. He's never said before that he wishes he was solo before joining a band.

Despite all the smiles, I think it's hard to say whether the return of Ed was amicable business vs. true friendship. I'm not sold on either.

The big question obviously is the role Ed will play in Live now. Like you said, he's plugging Think Loud, and selling Zoe. Ed also confirmed that he was at Think Loud, inside the studio. I remember the rumor that someone saw Ed come out of the studio like about a month ago? Hopefully this means he's been putting in work.

Otherwise, kind of funny how Ed remembered being on Loveline with Dr. Drew. Would be neat if someone could dig up that video.

Also, I'm interested in Zoe's now because CCP are on the tracks, and Christopher Thorn, honorary Live guitarist during TDTH, was a producer. I thought the tracks played on the radio were not bad.

Really? I didn't give any analysis into that. I brushed it off as another instance of Chad T's verbal diarrhea. We all know that man can talk... and talk. I felt uncomfortable for Zoe when he was giving that answer. They had just started and the spotlight was supposed to be on her.

Anyway, IMO, they had been out for some drinks before going to the station. --Probably had some of those mixers like Chad has posted on FB.

Ed's does love the spotlight. This whole Internet/social media disappearing act must be killing him right now.

I think that is just looking at the other side of the same coin. There is very much business related matters going on behind closed doors which lead to this. They're not going to publicly display that, obviously.

Good point. I'm sure there's a ton of legal stuff to sort out. Ed wouldn't come back without regaining some control of the trademark. That's really complicated stuff to work through, even if they all agree to the same terms.

Yes

Although I wouldn't have had to if people didn't completely miss the point multiple times.

Imagine if Heaven was Ed's first single of his solo career. It would have been perfect for him. A statement that said "I'm a father now whose found religion. That's the music I want to make." Sure half of the Live fanbase would have said "F- that!", but the other half, also growing up, would support it. He'd also find a new audience in the adult contemporary scene. Imagine if it was amicable between Ed and CCP. If CCP said "Yeah we're not into that." The could have split on mutual terms, put Live on hiatus, and reunited seven years later to fans craving for it. Instead Heaven was included on a Live album and the rest is history.

That would have been something. But ultimately not really realistic. As Ed showed with having to be sued in order to stop marketing himself as part of Live - he never really wanted to go solo. He wanted to continue to use the Live name as much as he could. So I think if he had his time over he'd still prefer releasing Heaven as part of Live even if it was basically him solo.

But you're right, it certainly would have been a different world. If TGF still existed and a Shinn lead CCP was something other than Live (although to me it was more Live since anything post 2000). I wonder without that friction and with Ed able to write how he wants and still market himself as part of Live and use all the Live branding whether we would even be getting a reunion this quickly? Or at all? In this scenario both sides may even be more comfortable apart working the way they want to. Could be much longer than ~7 years

Okay, I may be misinterpreting the post, but when I read this, I thought to myself, "And the Ed-hating flames continue to still be fanned." sad.gif
I am sure Ed misses interacting with his fans on social media. I doubt highly that he misses social media because he's being narcissistic about it! I also think when he said he invited himself to the interview, some of you are reading way too much into that. I imagine they were working together and wrapped up for the day & Ed said, "Hey, care if I come along?" I don't think he tagged along due to his ego. Wow.

I don't like Chris Shinn because he is a rather craptastic performer. And that's all you will see me say about him (okay, and maybe that he's rather ugly haha), but it's not deep seeded hate & resentment.

I just hope to see these snarky Ed comments end and peace between the two Live camps, as others here have expressed.
