You are also right that people who really like Shinn are going to resist Ed rejoining and we will be going round and round and yea, it's nothing new. Van Halen vs. Van Hagar type of stuff. Even though I don't like him, as you suggest, I will take my hat off to him for trying to fill Ed's shoes.

why did you not ever see them since the early days if you like them so much? No worries tho.
I think even if people don't care for shinn, and don't want Ed to return just because it might just appear when the creative shift and ego thing reared; just would rather they hang it up permanently. No harm in doing that.

I love Chris Shinn...My only beef with him is when he changes lyrics ("..."I can hear the siren's calling, take my hand I can't my darling").

Well, "take my hand" was the original lyric when they first played the song. Are you saying you don't like how it was removed in the studio? Not sure why you would beef with this change, it's just an artistic device to have more than one way to sing a song he helped create. It's not like when Chris just can't seem to remember Ed's "I Alone" lyrics which are precious to many Live fans.

Oh I so disagree. I love Chris Shinn.

Love him all you want. Art is subjective.

Well the first time I heard the song was the studio version so to me it's the live version that doesn't stick.

It was either lack of funds in my college days or geography that prevented me from seeing them. After growing up in the Midwest, my first job brought me to San Antonio. To my knowledge and looking back at a history of tour dates, Live have never played in S.A. in their existence. Why does Dallas always get all the shows?!

I am actually worried that Live might have retired. There is harm in that because they can totally still be relevant.

If they retired, I believe they would have said something. The silence is not like them.

I hope you are right. The silence has been too weird and I wonder why they won't go ahead & announce Ed is back...unless...they are working on material with him and want to announce and release it at the same time. Just a guess as to why they are so hush-hush.

Here are my personal reasons for wanting LIVE/the original four to get back together:

1. As a long time fan, I also unfortunately never got to see them in concert (for a variety of reasons) so to see them all together would be a dream for me!

2. To me, the story of LIVE is still being written--I have hope and faith that the guys know this too (they weren't originally calling it quits forever! Clearly it mattered enough to CCP to 'reform' a few years ago) and we all know how much the music and their history means to them (if just looking at their recent Facebook posts...which is obvious).

3. I truly believe like others that it is possible for all four to get together and make music again. No it's not going to be like the past--but so what? All bands/artists evolve, go through changes, mature, etc. which is normal! There are PLENTY of bands out there that LIVE came up with that still tour/make great music and put on fantastic live shows--which I 100% think LIVE could be part of that too. We as fans I believe can still appreciate the past music and look forward to the new--I would hope the guys can too. Their legacy matters, their music matters. There's more LIVE fans out there than some of y'all seem to think....

4. At the end of the day--LIVE is such a great rock band that changed/impacted so many and especially now more than ever, their music and mission all along is still relevant.

Eh, I don't think it's so strange that if Shinn left/was kicked out of Live they'd be silent until announcing their next move. What I find to be truly out of the ordinary is Ed's silence. Even when he doesn't tour he usually informs the fan base what he's up to.

They're all together coming up with canned responses to explain their reunion which they'll repeat at the next 50 interviews.

I'm almost certain it's going to happen. Easy to read between the lines from their facebook page.

Again, I really hope that Shinn wasn't hurt in the process, and a huge thank to him helping the band to create a very solid rock album with The Turn. Their shows, far from perfect, were really raw, loud and he became a better performer as he was doing shows (except for lyrics mistakes which were hard to bear for me). He is also a very down to earth person, easy to talk to. Glad I met him.

As for Ed, I just don't know...are they hiding in their studio ar the moment? It's been silent for so long, we never know. He can't be raw like in the past, but he can't be like he was post 2001 as well. He needs to bring passion to the old songs, not just singing the words. I think Shinn did some great versions of Iris, White, discussion, Operation Spirit , PlOTR and Lakini's Juice among others, all songs that I'm not sure how Ed can sing them. Like I already said, I will see youtube videos before judging if I'm in or not, and new songs are a request for me. Show us that you could all be in a same room for a while and create something good, rocking and passionate.

Answer to the thread title is simple. If your favorite band is broken up, and you don't want a reunion, they aren't your favorite band.

Why is it impossible for some fans to like Live the way it was/is with Chris Shinn? I understand totally the people who want Ed back, but Live made The Turn, and some fans liked it alot. And it was the record for which reviews were the best since TDTH, if not before.

And the album didn't even generate a proper US tour, and was Live's first album to not make the Billboard top 100.
