QUOTE(Jim @ Mar 30 2015, 3:31 pm) *

Ah TDTH...I sometimes think about how different that album could have been. I was lucky enough to see Live play 3 nights in a row at the Chameleon Club back in 1998. This was in between Secret Samadhi and TDTH, and these shows were meant to showcase the new songs that would eventually be on TDTH...or so I had hoped. I still have a setlist I got from the 2nd show of that run, it was given to me by the band's manager. They played so many songs that never got released in any official capacity that it's still a major disappointment to me today. "Still Aroused", "New City", "Change", "Don't Wait"...if these songs were on TDTH it would have been a very different album.

While TDTH is a fine album, I think it could have been better if we got more of these unreleased songs, they were "harder" and more aggressive than a lot of TDTH. Personally I think that if they included more of the "harder" songs on TDTH it could have come close to Throwing Copper in terms of sales and popularity. Then again, this whole Churchbox debacle has shown that we all yearn for that which we cannot have, so maybe I have just hyped up these unreleased songs simply because they are unreleased. Still though, I can recall seeing a somewhat recent interview with Chad and I believe he even says that TDTH could have been a much different album.

In case anyone is interested, here's the songs they played on the 2nd night of those shows, straight from the setlist:

Where Fishes Go
Still Aroused
Sun
Sparkle
Meltdown
All Over You
Face and Ghost
Overcome
Turn My Head
Vine Street
New City
I Alone
Don't Wait
Change
Stood Up For Love

Ahhh... You saw New City!!! That song has eluded me forever. Wish I could hear it!

I heard New City on that tour, at the Stone Pony in NJ sometime in the spring of 98. I remember the show well (and managed to get a setlist at the end). Honestly New City was the weakest song in the set, so I'm not surprised it never made an album. It was very up-tempo--probably one of the fastest songs on the set.

The highlight of that night was They Stood Up 4 Love, which blew everyone away. I remember thinking that it could become the next Lightning Crashes. For some reason, the song was completely changed on TDTH... I guess the version we heard could have been the Big Bang version, but I don't know for sure.

It was most likely the big bang version.

Could you upload your setlist?

There was also a song called "Wash the Blood Away" that was played on that spring-summer tour. They played it a few times at CBGBs.

Oh man. I remember the old school illout.com and live-web fan boards! There was always something to read about the band back then!

Was listening to V today and there really are some great songs on the album - it really is too bad that so many of the songs have that "limp bizkit" production element to them.

Anyone know of a circulating boot of a live show from that era that seems more in line with a rawer guitar driven sound?
